I couldn't be happier to be sharing new music with you all and this record in particular 😤

Where have I been? Good question! 2020 just felt like the wrong time to release music for me. My music has always been focused on lifting people up and good vibes and last year was...last year. After I dropped the Gunna remix last May I just decided to focus on writing new originals and laying the groundwork for a big 2021. 

So here we are - the first of (at least) 4 singles I'm releasing this year! For the first time in my music career I have 100%, complete control over my music - when it's released, how it's released, who I work with - and it is an amazing feeling. And that actually leads into the story of this record...

So a while back I got approached about doing a remix for a pretty big EDM artist, did what I thought was great work, only to have them turn it down and never drop any remixes. I was bummed about the situation but knew there was too much here to just throw away so I changed the key, changed the chords, sped it up, and re-produced the whole song, which is now One Touch. I don't think there could be a more fitting start for the next phase of my project (100% originals) than turning a remix someone didn't want to let me put out into a song I love and can share with you all.

I'm so happy with how this record turned out. Few things in life make me happier than a good ol piano house slapper and I tried to walk the line on this between 90s vintage vibes and something that will absolutely smack when you play it in a club.

I'm stoked to share my single Rescue, featuring amazing vocals from Davis Mallory with you guys today 😀

Davis and I connected on IG in late 2020 and he sent me a bunch of open demos and toplines he had, and Rescue instantly popped out to me as something I wanted to produce. Davis and his co-writers Valentin Glage + Vincent Stefansson did an amazing job crafting a catchy vocal hook on this and also provided the guitar loop you hear repeating for most of the track, which I tweaked a bit with Melodyne to match the chords I wanted to use but otherwise left as is. 

Rescue is a bit of a moodier, darker record than what I usually put out but I'm so happy with how this one turned out. Hopefully you find it to be a laid back, groovy melodic tune that's perfect for summertime.

All These Roads was one of my favorite house tunes to come out last summer so when Atlantic approached me about doing the remix I was pumped - Sam and Zella's vocals are just so perfect for a festival or a warm summer day that I wanted to do the original track justice.  I thought it would be cool to draw an emotional contrast between Sam and Zella's vocals, so the remix starts in D Minor, just as the original was written, but the progression flips to F Major when Zella's vocals come in for the first time, and stays there for the rest of the track.  I think the result is a euphoric build before the first drop, and after road testing this one out for a few months I can say it's as good for the club as it is on a perfect summer day.

Where to start with this one...this is the fourth remix I've done for The Knocks, and I think its safe to say after this there's something awesome going on when we do something together.  Not that they need any introduction at this point but The Knocks are a duo from NYC who consistently put out incredible tunes and although we make very different kinds of music I think we're both inspired by a lot of the same things.  Sneaky Sound System always manages to deliver epic vocals that lend themselves very well to being remixed, and when I first heard "The One" I got inspired pretty much instantly.  As I often do with my remixes, I decided to take the track from a more serious and minor-key tone into a uplifting major progression, and this remix combines a lot of my current influences into a track that has a lot of different sounds all working as one (and no I did not mean to create a horrible pun there).  This remix was an insane amount of work, my Ableton session was around 250 tracks for this one, but it was worth it - this is by far my favorite track I've done to date and something I hope you guys will be listening to for a long time to come.

So The Life was one of my favorite summer tracks this year, and when Viceroy asked me to do a remix I was pumped.  The track is the perfect combo of great vocals and feel good guitars and bongos, which are the universal sign of summer if you ask me.  Chris' vocals were a ton of fun to work with because they could so easily fit into so many different sounds/genres, and I decided to take this one in a very different direction from the other music I've released this year.  I tried to put a lot of different sounds that I've been listening to recently - 90s Piano House, Deep, and Future House - into a unique mix and add my usual touch of pop sensibility to it.  The result is a remix that I think is the perfect soundtrack to the start of fall, and I couldn't be happier with how this one turned out.  

Deep Thought: I have no idea what a Penguin Prison is, or what it would look like, but I imagine it would be very, very cold and something like an animal kingdom version of Orange is the New Black.  Also, if you haven't seen March of the Penguins you need to stop what you're doing and watch that immediately.

So I know at this point theres been 10 million Kanye remixes, and remixes of Kanye remixes, and mashups of Kanye remixes but...I just had to do one.  The Chainsmokers at this point need no introduction but in case you've been living deep, deep under a rock for the past couple years they are a couple dudes from NYC (where I live) who have very nice hair and who make really amazing tunes.  The best remixes always start with the best originals and The Chainsmokers absolutely crushed this one with an amazing vocal from SirenXX, which was a blast to work with.  

Siren's vocal to me has a great indie vibe and is unusual for a progressive house track, so I tried to stay true to that with the remix and compliment the vocal with a really clean and stripped down breakdown that leaves a lot of space in the mix.  Throw in a catchy piano house riff and a melodic drop and I couldn't be happier with how this one turned out.  As the guys said when they dropped the original - "This song is about doing you, living life how you want to live it and not giving a fuck what anyone else thinks. Its about owning your shit and being happy with your life, no matter the circumstances, rich or poor, skinny or fat, young or old its about exuding confidence" - so I hope this remix keeps that vibe alive for you for just a little bit longer.

So NT1927 are a new signing to Atlantic and although I just discovered them in the past couple months I'm a huge fan of their sound - if you dig The Killers you're gonna like these guys, a lot.  Tegan and Sara need no introduction and I've always loved their sound so I was really excited when I got asked to do this remix.  The lyrics really struck a chord with me and I imagine they will with anyone who's ever been in a relationship that's gone south fast, aka everyone.  The song pretty much perfectly captures that feeling of wishing things had stayed good...but also wondering how soon it can all just be over and done with and when you should change your netflix password.  

One of the things that struck me as really cool about the original is how there's an A/B verse section split between NT1927 and Tegan and Sara, so I decided to play off that idea for the remix.  I tried to keep the verses minimal and let the lyrics shine through, while adding a bit of an 80s/retro touch.  The hook goes full on future tropical indie house (new genre coming to Beatport soon I swear) and brings the energy up for club play.

So if I had to make a list of my top 5 tracks for 2014, I'm pretty sure Runaway would be 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.  Galantis are out of this world talented producers, and they bring something so new and organic to the EDM scene that is totally unique and very much needed.  I loved everything about the original from the first time I heard it...the formant adjusted vocals, the super mellow breakdowns that flow into massive drops, the unusual chord progression, the weird animal noises or whatever's going on in the breaks...all of it.  "I see a billion dollars in your eyes" also gets my vote for vocal line of the year, it's everything a brilliant pop vocal should be - simple and relatable but also beyond the grasp of anyone not supremely talented to put into a few words.  

This track was a bit similar to Kanye in that it has a great indie female vocal and has already been remixed by everyone, their mom, and their mom's mom.  So you might be asking why I remixed a track that has been redone so many times already and all I can say is...I felt like there was still a lot of room to be creative and do something different.  The vocals were incredibly challenging to make work with a new chord progression but once I nailed the breakdown piano I knew I had something great and I'm really happy with how this one turned out.  Best of all its a Free DL which I love and you love cause the Galantis chaps were cool enough to give these vocals out for free.  I'm off to go figure out how to make music more like these dudes so enjoy the remix and most importantly SUPPORT THE ORIGINAL!

True Story:  Apparently Galantis built a studio on a small island in the Baltic Sea to record all of their music, which is both really cool and helps to explain why their music sounds like it came from another planet.

So Betty Who is one of my favorite new pop artists and if you're not familiar with her music yet I hope this remix will make you a fan, cause everything she and Peter Thomas do together is incredible.  'It's a perfect day for a fight' is my favorite opening to a love song in a while and everything about this track just screams summer, sun, and poor decisions in the back of a convertible.  Put the windows down, turn the volume up, and go get lost to this one.

Also I know artists always say this but for real GO LISTEN to Betty Who's stuff cause she is a rockstar!

Crazy But True-
1 - I heard an actual human being use the phrase The Boys Are Back in reference to the Entourage movie this weekend
2 - Pied Piper's new lawyer in Silicon Valley is also Lloyd Braun from Seinfeld which is just phenomenal casting
3 - "It's a perfect day for a fight" is a surprisingly good opener on Tinder
4 - The guy who sleeps in the hallway outside my studio told me "That track is nice, brother" after hearing this.  He then asked me to buy him a Pepsi, but only in a bottle, for reasons which remain unclear

So the last 6 or 7 remixes I've done, going all the way back to last fall, have been of originals that I (and everyone else) had been listening to for a while and knew inside and out.  Kanye, All of You, Runaway - all amazing tracks, all been streamed on Spotify like 40 million times.  As much as I love working with songs that have a huge audience already, there's something special about being the first artist to remix a track ahead of it's release, especially if it's from a new artist.  

A little while back Republic hit me up asking if I wanted to remix High On Love, and it was my first time hearing the incredibly talented @classactress -  I was sold right away, cause the girl can SING.  I'm really proud of how this one turned out - it's something different from the progressive house I usually put out, but still packs the energy people expect from my tunes.  This one is all about mellow breakdowns, melodic drops, and good vibes - if this isn't beach music, I don't know what is.

Funny but true -

So I've been a big fan of @timeflies for a while now, Timeflies Tuesday was probably the most brilliant way to release music I've ever seen and Rob and Cal are both super talented dudes who make great music.  I was really excited to get a chance to work with this track, and the vocal to me sounded like it would be perfect over a tropical house/pop style beat so that's where I took it.  Pop music gets a bit of a bad rap sometimes but just try listening to this one with the windows down and the volume up and tell me you're not smiling...

Fun Facts:
1 - There are indeed worse things than love.  Subway rats fighting over pizza, Colin Kaepernick, and people who dressed up as Bill Cosby for Halloween (you know who you are) come to mind.
2 - I don't know who the girl in this cover photo is, but she's definitely a Timeflies fan.  Also, if she's your girlfriend, you win at life.
3 - I just got tickets to a real life taping of the Maury show, so if you see someone in a Dave Edwards shirt as someone is finding out they are/are not the father (hopefully not me), that's your boy.
4 - People putting unfiltered ice cubes in otherwise delicious Brita water is one of the most under-talked about problems of our time.

Ok so you’re prob sitting there, iced coffee in hand, hungover af from the weekend, with half the tracks in your Soundcloud feed being Bring Back the Summer remixes, being like what on earth made someone want to do yet another one…I get that. And yea, this may have knocked off Hello or Somebody I Used to Know for most remixed song of all time - the amount of trap arms thrown to this track already is seriously mind-boggling.  BUT…I had to do it.  If you’ve been following me for a while you know I don’t shy away from songs that have been remixed to death (Kanye, Lights, The Feeling…) and that I always bring something new to the table.  

Pretty sure this is the first track I’ve heard Oly sing on but her voice is unreal and was a dream to work with.  Rain Man crushed the original mix of this and to me, the only way to do a proper remix was to go in a completely different direction…new chords, new melody, totally flip the style even though it’s the same tempo as the original.  I went with some really vibey and unusual chords (I’m gonna do a tutorial on how I made this track for the producers out there) that gave it a good summer feel and hope this is gonna live at the top of your playlists all summer long.  

Fun Facts:
1 - There is no greater luxury in life than having way too many iPhone chargers.  I've got one in every outlet in my apartment now and short of having a yacht or being Calvin Harris it is literally the most baller shi* ever.
2 - I went to see Robyn at Gov Ball instead of The Strokes.  BRING ON THE HATE
3 - If you eat pineapple while mastering a tropical house track the music gods will bestow on you 1 extra dB of loudness.
4 - Quick music theory lesson of the day (QMTLOTD) - this remix uses what I like to call the Teenage Dream chord trick...start on the IV, never resolve to the I, until the very last note of the song...gives a track a driving, endless feel that sounds unusual since people are so used to hearing progressions resolve to the tonic.  More about this in the tutorial coming soon!

So if you’re anything like me you’ve been counting the days, waiting on the summer for a good 6 months now, getting your hopes up every time it’s over 30 degrees for a day that long afternoons on the beach are right around the corner, and this song is the soundtrack to that…

This was one of those tracks that I heard for the first time and instantly knew I wanted to remix it. VHS Collection is an amazing up and coming band out of NYC (my hometown too) who are making some great indie rock/pop and between the lyrics and the overall vibe this was a big tropical remix waiting to happen.  I tried to blend a groovy indie vibe on the verses with a huge, melodic, in your face drop, and I’m super happy with how this one turned out.  Enjoy this one how it’s meant to be enjoyed…fully loaded with your face up in the clouds 😃

If I had to list my favorite new artists of 2016, LÉON is without a doubt at #1 - the first time I heard Tired of Talking, I instantly became a fan.  She’s got a completely unique sound, which is rare for a pop artist - and her voice and songwriting are absolutely incredible.  She’s been right at the top of my ‘Artists I’d like to remix’ list since then, so when her team gave me the chance to work on this track I was super hyped about it.  

One of my favorite things about remixing is that it’s an opportunity to completely reinterpret and reimagine a record - sometimes you find small things buried in the stems of a song that you think would be an interesting main element, even though the listener could barely hear it in the single mix.  I found the chorus-like vocal lead you hear in the intro and verses of this remix in the stems, and after messing with the formants on it in Melodyne I realized it would be an awesome and super vibey anchor to build the track around.  Hope you guys enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed making it ✌🏻

Ahhh I am SO happy to finally be sharing some original music with you guys!!  @markasari is an amazing vocalist based out of the UK (you might recognize him from KREAM's Another Life) and working with him on this record was an amazing experience.  

I worked on this record off and on for over a year - it went through a ton of different arrangements and production styles on its way to the version you hear today.  It started out with an unusual chord progression I came up with on the piano (which you hear on synths now in the verses) and grew from there into something I that I hope is inspiring and memorable.  Style wise, so much stuff coming out at the moment feels a little too similar to me, and sometimes you just need a proper banger of a house tune to play out - so that's what I did here 😎.

2018 is going to be about original record after original record for me, and I'm excited for this next phase.  Stay tuned for a couple new remixes dropping end of December and early January too 😀

I'm so happy with how this record came out and couldn't be more excited to share this with you guys today 🙏🏻

I wrote the instrumental for this a few months back and as soon as the @flybymidnight guys sent me their first vocals for it I knew we had something really special.  This track does something that I personally love to hear in pop music...it blends a feel good, almost euphoric vibe at points with a story about something that's real and a little f*cked up, creating this tension that never lets the song go too happy or too sad, just kind of letting it live somewhere in between, which is life.  The @flybymidnight guys are super super talented and the vocal melodies and harmonies on this track are so dope - be sure to follow them cause everything they do is 🔥

I love that we called this track Swimming With Sharks too, because who does that?  

Also massive thank you to Amy Birnbaum at Round Hill Music for connecting me & the Fly By guys, this record wouldn't have happened without her help.  Huge thank you to @mikeserman as well, as usual he absolutely killed the guitars on this record.

The first time I heard Gunna’s Skybox record, my reaction was “This is different…” and after having it on repeat for a couple weeks, I thought it would be fun to experiment with a remix. With this track I really tried to step away from what you’d expect out of a trap Hip-Hop remix, and I leaned into the strong triplet groove of the original record on the verses and a euphoric, summertime friendly drop. 

I’ve felt really lucky to be inspired during this stay at home period and I’ve been writing a ton of music for my project that I can’t wait to share with you guys over the summer. For now I hope this one makes your day a bit better and brings back some of those warm weather vibes I know we’re all ready for 🌊
