I wrote the words to this song when I was 18 and waiting to see what number I would get in the draft lottery. I had recently lost a few friends over in Vietnam and was sure that if I was drafted I would be going over there and never coming back... My dad had a conversation with me the night before and told me he would support anything I wanted to do, even if it was to go to Canada to avoid the whole thing. He did say that he would rather I stayed and did what I had to do but either way he loved me and would support me. I assured him that I was scared BUT I would never run away and hide. I then stayed up all night and wrote The Trip. I wrote it thinking about me and ALL of my friends who never came back. WAR is terrible and NOTHING good comes of it. If war actually worked we would have had ONE and no more. ANYONE who talks about WAR as a good thing or something we should do is either CLUless or HEARTless. This song is both a protest song and a hidden message song. I hope you JOIN me in the protest, GET the message and ENJOY the song.
