She’s not the first one and won’t be the last one,
The last one was first, but then she went away.
So I’m starting over, I’ve got ground to cover,
Please send another first my way. I’m growing weary of playing the same old game.
Someone once told me that love is a fire,
It needs careful tending or it will soon fade.
So, if I am not the flame it requires,
Love turns to ashes & cannot be saved.
My only question is where does the fire come from?

Is it in me? In you? In both? In neither? Can you buy it or sell it or make your own?
Is there a web page you can easily find it? Or order it on the telephone?

Keeper of the Flame

Somehow I thought the circle would get bigger, instead it’s getting smaller every day.
And the one thing that’s so hard for me to figure; do people really mean the things they say?
Here is what we know about the circle. No matter what, it never ends.
So how the hell can you ever break a circle? That’s the all-important question my friend.
Have we stopped to think about the consequences? Given thought to where it might all end?
Or is winning the only thing that really matters? We need time to let broken hearts mend.

We need time to clean the water and the air now.
Still a lot of fences left to mend.
We need time to repair the broken bridges.
We need time, and it’s time to take a stand.

If you truly split a circle in the middle, you’ll have two semi-circles every time.
But soon enough you’ll end up with two circles, neither one can ever see the other’s side.
That’s why, I think, we need some time for healing, to learn the art of compromise.
We need some time to stop and smell the roses. Up above the clouds are sunny skies.

We need time to clean the water and the air now.
Still a lot of fences left to mend.
We need time to repair the broken bridges.
We need time, and it’s time to take a stand.

We need lessons in civility & patience. Open conversations on our knees.
And we all need to stop thinking with our wallets.
We need compassion, we need laughter, we need peace.

Will the circle be unbroken? Will the circle be unbroken?
