like a cry out into the wild
i made up my mind as a child
but i tend to wait
and overcomplicate 
just who i am
but if i could choose one path
would it look something like the one behind my back
or do maybe I spend too much time kidding around

it's so mysterious
like a carving on a table left behind by two like us
a year and day of the month

now I'm remembering those nights by the water
and I can't get out of my head for the life of myself
when I got carried away 
is when i lost her
just one more bad idea
seems like a good place to start
before I head back home

it could all end up a wasted lesson
losing track of time on empty thought
so open up your mind and eyes 
make her smile the biggest prize you'd ever want

and when the dream is in your vision
trade dull weaknesses for love and passion
the most beautiful thing
like a bird who sings
but doesn't ask for your attention

like the way her eyes connect with mine boarding the midnight bus
remember how it was

now i'm thinking of those nights by the water
with out any doubt in my mind those were the days of our lives
we got carried away but I still loved her
there is 
magic in my memories 
and I know that is real
but every time we move along
it's just one more bad idea
that forms a broken heart
before we head back home

might i add
before i hit the road
you were the best i ever had 
and that is where you stay
don't be sad 
there's more to love than holding on
and when you find your soul wont break
over someone else's mistakes
time will teach you everything you need to know 
and love will take you home

Tom Waits (on Jim Wilson): "Wilson, he's always playing with time. I heard a recording recently of crickets slowed way down. It sounds like a choir, it sounds like angel music. Something sparkling, celestial with full harmony and bass parts - you wouldn't believe it. It's like a sweeping chorus of heaven, and it's just slowed down, they didn't manipulate the tape at all. So I think when Wilson slows people down, it gives you a chance to watch them moving through space. And there's something to be said for slowing down the world."
