Welcome to the seventh show of A Darker Wave Extra, our brand new format of occasional shows presented by Jacki-E & P-Mac, with a one hour mix by the show's presenters in the first half featuring the latest and best of the new techno releases and a guest mix by leading underground Techno DJs in the second.

In our mix in the first hour there’s new releases and promos from Space 92 & Charles D, Charlotte de Witte, Adam Beyer, Mari Ferrari, Annie Hill and lots more.

The guest mix in the 2nd hr is by Tobi Tobermann, a DJ / Producer from Frankfurt-am-Main in Germany. He first became interested in techno in the 1990’s. His influences include Sven Väth, Emmanuel Top & Chris Liebing. His sound has also been shaped by the DJs who played at the legendary club U60311 in Frankfurt-am-Main. After some years away from the scene he has been actively back on the decks since 2020. He makes tracks in collaboration with Denis Nocken and they have published a track every month since April 2024. Their latest track “Disconnection” is included in the mix you’re about to hear and every track in the mix is by Dennis & Tobi.

Roul Bauer aka Vicious Steam Engine

Born in 1978 in Germany, Roul Bauer—better known as Vicious Steam Engine—discovered his passion for techno during the explosive rave movement of the 1990s in Switzerland and Germany. Deeply inspired by the driving rhythms and hypnotic energy of the scene, he carried that passion forward until it fully ignited during the COVID-19 lockdown in August 2020. It was then that his desire to create his own sonic journeys came to life.

A year later, he began producing his own techno tracks and honed his mixing skills through a DJ/mixing workshop with Mixmasters.ch. To sharpen his craft and connect with the underground community, he launched his own podcast on SoundCloud: Hot Pressure Stream. Originally started as a training ground, the podcast quickly gained momentum, attracting a growing audience and guest DJs such as Anne Rosko, Isca Nublar, 909RIOT, Traumtherapie, DJ E-Viction, Tchie, Andy Pirie, Techno X-Citement, DJ Capelli, X-Dream, and Nao Tamura.

Vicious Steam Engine has made guest appearances on several respected underground techno podcasts, including TECNO OSCURO (2 DJ sets), A Darker Wave, Techno Topic by Andy Pirie, and RTDFRAVERRADIO (Brooklyn, NY). He has also been featured on Capelli’s Outta Freak’in Control Podcast, an episodic series that showcases cutting-edge underground talent and airs on RTDFRAVERRADIO.com. His recent guest sets placed him alongside legendary and rising artists such as Frankie Bones, Lenny Dee, Jim Solis, D.A.V.E. The Drummer, Rewilder, Chris Liberator, DJ Papa Smrf, Jay Maniakal, DJ Capelli, DJ Hooraa, Bösetecha, Destro187, and Belaroc.

On November 28, 2021, Vicious Steam Engine released his debut EP Dark Dance of Gratitude on TECNO OSCURO, followed by the Kill the Silence EP on April 18, 2022.

Since 2023, he has taken a deep dive into music production, attending two techno retreats hosted by Mixmasters.net in Ibiza. There, he studied with industry legends such as Funk D’Void, Patrik Berg, Harvey McKay, Wehbba, and Josh Wink. He is currently advancing his production skills through an online course in electronic music at Sinee Institute, led by Björn Torwellen, while also mastering the Ableton Push 2.

With relentless dedication to evolving his sound, Vicious Steam Engine continues to build momentum and forge his path in the global techno scene.
