Each track is a layered improvised sound meditation interacting with the natural soundscape of the various remote locations around the state of Michoacán. Mt. Shasta is known as  the Root Chakra Mountain of Mother Earth. Within the area, there are many boundaries such as the High Altitude Tree-Line, Meadows and Forest. Also, Water is presented in different ways near Mt. Shasta, crossing multiple boundaries starting with the snow and glaciers up on the mountain, then melting and flowing within the mountain on its 50-year journey to the springs where it escapes the mountain and becomes the headwaters of the Sacramento River. Then, it flows to Lake Siskiyous and Shasta Lake, and finally makes its journey to the Pacific Ocean through the Central Valley of California, creating life through the olives, rice, fruit trees, and other crops that are grown there. 
This project will connect the boundaries of Land and Water at four soundscapes on the same day using freely improvised sound meditations and video. The first is an ambient soundscape recorded at the High Altitude Tree-Line on Mt. Shasta at Avalanche Gulch. This location is the boundary between the high altitudes that are dominated by geology and wind and the biologically-rich region below. The second soundscape is located at the boundary between Sandflat Meadow and the surrounding Forest, with the ambient soundscape being augmented with an improvisation using a handpan and shakers. The third soundscape is located at City Park in Mt. Shasta, which is the headwaters of the Sacramento River and is the boundary between subsurface and surface flow of Water. Here, the loud ambient soundscape will be augmented with an improvisation on trumpet and singing bowls, which some say are themselves a boundary between the physical and mystical spheres. The final soundscape will be recorded at the shore of Lake Siskiyous, a boundary between Water and Land, augmenting the ambient soundscape with a Gong and Shruti box.

Ntra Sra Del Carmen

This composition was recorded in layers in the old electric plant at Dos Estrellas Gold Mine in Tlalpujahua, MICH, Mexico on 6/17/2021. You can sense the rich history of the location of the varied uses of the building over time. In 1937 a mudslide buried ⅓ of the town in a mining accident. The mine was still used into the 1960’s. Exploring the different time levels and uses of this building by recording a 3 layered composition where each musician inhabited a different part of the ruin of a building and then bring them together by interacting sonically and musically from the different time levels.

This sound journey weaves the natural soundscape of the Burning Man playa with the sacred releasing energies found during the 'Temple Burn'. I recorded these layers interacting with the soundscape, people, and sites as I watched the sunset and the temple slow set ablaze and return to ash. This is meant as healing gift to all who release loved ones during this ritual.

Came across a sign for a Japanese garden when driving up to the old Roman fort. We pulled over and after a couple of wrong trails, came across a beautiful hill of stacked rocks and trees with stone steps. Didn't know if this was the spot, but we felt an energy there that called for us to record a song there.

VI. Enlightenment - The Awakening

Recorded during the Temple of Direction burn on Sunday, 9/1/19 at Burning Man 2019. This sound meditation started just as they lit fire to the temple and concluded when the structure had fully fallen. I was set up just outside the main crowd so you can hear more ambient noises as people rushed to see the burn closer. 

This sound meditation is dedicated to all of my campmates at Snowflake Village and the ensemble and events I perfomed in this year (Black Rock Philharmonic, Burning Band, Ambient Drummers, Processional Band, Jazz Funeral for the Man, Playa Choir,  & the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
