The Dutch West Coast scene is as fabled as Detroit techno and Chicago house. And Intergalactic Gary − a DJ for 35 years − has been involved with it since day one. The cult selector had a residency at The Hague's first ever house club in 1992 and since then has honed a style that has lead the legendary I-F to call him ‘terminator’ such is the focus he has on the decks.
Whether working you into a trance or keeping you guessing with improbable bridges between raw acid, 70s Italo or fresh techno, he's a flawless, instinctive DJ who is predictably unpredictable. Whether new or old, Gary doesn't care, “as long as it has character and something interesting going on that grabs the attention.

The concept for this mix began back in June 2022 when I started taking an interest in the artists that followed me on Soundcloud. One of the first people I checked out was Emanuel; I was really impressed with their track 'May8X' and decided to try and gather enough music to record a mix. It took a bit longer than I anticipated, but the quality of tunes in exceptional and I highly recommend you follow all of the folks involved immediately!

In the end I also included some unreleased tracks passed to me by Robin Wylie, Ninechecker, Scatterbaux, Zodiac Childs, BufoBufo and WILES (they were simply too good not to share). Welcome back to the Gated podcast just in time for Autumn. 
This time we have a real treat for you with our guest Mark Shephard.
Mark honed his DJ skills in the clubs and basements of Brooklyn before relocating to Tokyo in 2022. Currently he was an organizer of the Acid Gakkou party in Shibuya, frequent guest DJ at Circus Tokyo for the Ensite series of parties, and performed live regularly in Tokyo with hardware drum machines and synthesizers. He’s now established himself in a move to Berlin alongside partner and previous esteemed guest on the Gated Pod, MuHe.
We grabbed Mark for a little bit of a catchup and thoughts behind the mix.

“I’ve been getting settled in Berlin these past months, really enjoying running in the abundant parks and getting some crash German education. Music wise, I’m very into electro and acid house recently, particularly the new releases from Tom Carruthers and Legowelt on L.I.E.S. and from Ninechecker on brokntoys. My idea for this podcast was to play with different broken rhythms at a wide spread of tempos, with some recurring IDM melancholy in the chords and melodies. Cheers!”
