Fine string artist Don Jennings brought to my attention that not everyone knows what a "Requinto" guitar is.  It is a smaller nylon-string guitar tuned a 4th above standard tuning; think shifting each pitch one string toward the low E--A becomes E, D becomes A, etc. It is the tenor voice of the Mexican guitar family.  I became enamored with its tone a few years ago when guitar shopping during the pandemic.  I picked this one up as the others were being "disinfected" and was immediately smitten.  Music just poured out of it, even the beginnings of a song.  I had to buy it then and there so I could see how the song would turn out:)  It is the first on the playlist, "Return to Innocence".  It has the lead voice with a Gibson Jumbo giving some bottom end on some of the songs.

Songs Featuring the Requinto Guitar

First released on St Patrick's Day, I explore some Celtic-flavored melodies that came to me while playing a Requinto guitar.  It's higher tonality sounds a little more harp-like and they just seemed to pour out of it.  I add a little foundation with the Gibson SJ-100.

A Celtic Idyll

A peppy little tune written for my fourth granddaughter 11 years ago (she just turned 16) but newly arranged and recorded.  A distinctive feature heard throughout this song is the falling 3rd interval that sounds like I'm calling out her name which I do from time to time whenever I get to visit.  Hopefully it will put a little spring in your step:)

After a longer break I needed some inspiration from Cecilia again and I remixed one of her great songs. This time I worked with some finished funky guitar loops, but I also recorded a few tracks myself. You can hardly hear it. Maybe that's better 😄. It's not a masterpiece, but I really wanted to get back into SC. It's good therapy in these crazy times.

Keep Good Vibes Alive - Special Cecila & OMCB

The presents are opened and the children are playing with boundless energy.  This is the image I wanted to capture with the solo Requinto guitar.  I thought about putting an adult in the room (bigger guitar) but decided no, let the children play:) There is also a wee little story line; there is playing and playing, trying out a different toy, playing some more, then the fatigue sets in and they start to wind down for a nap only to dream of playing some more...
