Proud to announce my first collaboration with folk string artist extraordinaire Don Jennings.  Don establishes the feel of the song with his strong rhythm strumming--almost the feel of a Celtic stomp, trying to get the mud off one's boots, but allows me plenty of space for my Requinto guitar that sounds a little like a mandolin in the center-left channel. It had been over 35 years since I last played the guitar...

I started again at the end of July 2025.

On August 10, 2025, I recorded this cover with my cell phone,
WITHOUT EFFECTS, raw sound, with vocals and guitar.

When converting the file to Wav format, I simply heightened the volume.

First of all, I would like to thank two followers:

- Four months ago, the first one really encouraged me 
to pick up the guitar again.

- The second is someone I hold in high esteem, 
who gave me confidence and, above all,
strongly advised me to post this track as it is,

She is an icon of folk music, she played her guitar upside down and backwards, and she served Don a fried chicken dinner when he got an opportunity to meet her in her home in Alexandria, Va.  In return he tried to teach her the Gary Davis tune "Candyman".  Don's roots run deep in folk music, not in just his knowledge of the genre, not just in the vintage instruments he owns and plays with deft skill, but in having encountered the artists themselves in live and personal settings. This song may seem like a step backwards, no DAW, just acoustic, quite simple, vocals and a guitalele as accompaniment. Are you familiar with this instrument? I didn't know it existed until I met someone on the train who had one with him, the GL1 from Yamaha. It's kind of a full-fledged mini guitar. It's rather inexpensive considering the quality, costing less than 100 euros including the case. It's a beautiful instrument, and you can easily take it with you anywhere. You can play it like a normal guitar, you just have to get used to the small frets on the fretboard. But I don't wish to advertise here...anyway, I am really happy with it.
I found that song on my phone, one of my very first songs, like „Giants“. I wasn't very good at playing at the time, so the accompaniment consisted mainly of 1 or 2 notes on the electric guitar, hardly any chords. When I rediscovered it, I thought it sounded so embarrassing (the guitar playing) that I wanted to delete it. But then I listened to the complete song and finally liked it a lot. I've taken over some of the minimal guitar playing here in the guitalele version, but play also full chords. So please don't expect a complex song here. Maybe if this is the first song you will hear from me, you perhaps better skip it and listen to another one first.

This song, in case you're not familiar, was written by Medeski, Martin, and Wood with guitarist John Scofield, and performed by them on an album eponymously named A Go Go. Josh has always been a huge fan of both MMW and J.S., and has always wanted to play more of their music, as he used to cover a couple of their songs in one of his main old bands. 
  Josh laid down the bass and after going back an forth a couple of times with Ken and his thrilling drums, they established the rhythm section. Soon after, Josh added his jazzy guitar, as well. We needed someone to play John Medeski's part, too, of course. So, we asked JJ if he'd do the honors, which he did in grand fashion. 
  Once it was all laid down, we needed a good mix, and no one is gooder than Stephen, so we asked him to mix it for us, which he did in his always pro manner. 
  This was a lot of fun to record, and we hope that comes through. This is a stripped down Eclectic Collective collab, where most of what we're all doing is improv. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.
