When you put your future in the hands of God and begin to live by inner guidance in the present moment, it can feel quite foolish at the beginning because our past conditioning is hammering harshly away at us. "What do you think you are? This is ridiculous, and you're throwing your whole life away for God, the great question mark the ego says. 

The ego won't even admit that there is a God, and if it has to admit that there is a God, it's a punishing God. It throws a fake God in there. So it's pretty interesting now we're going into this Place the Future in the Hands of God Retreat, that we need each other to reflect miracles. We're mighty companions to one another. We're witnesses to one another's miracles and how God is helping us. 

The Holy Spirit's presence is a burning, intense calling to wake us up, and we only have to join our little willingness to this burning, intense calling to wake up, and that will ignite the whole thing; that's what's sends the whole thing off into an actual experience.

Consistent happiness is no small topic at all. When Jesus says, "Dream softly of your sinless brother, dream of his kindnesses rather than the hurts he gave," he's always pointing us to the mind as to where the happiness originates. God created you as Spirit, and your happiness radiates out to everything and everyone. When you're happy, the whole world is happy. When you're not happy, you're not seeing a happy world. You may label some outcomes and events as happy, but you won't be consistently happy. It's impossible with judgment in mind.

Before you come to a state of consistent happiness, you seem to go through a dismantling. It's a dismantling of the self-concept, the image you believe you are, and the image you think the world is. Some of you may say it's quite a big thing to let go of this personality, including letting go of your belief in external wars, famine, external countries, and politicians. You have to let go of your belief in external stars, quasars, and black holes, and you have to start to realize, Oh my gosh, I'm the dreamer of this dream, and there's nothing outside of me. 

There's nothing that can hurt me and nothing that can harm me. To go through this dismantling, all you have to do is follow the guidance of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. It's straightforward. It's not a complicated thing, even though the Ego will try to make it cumbersome and will try to say but but but. But the truth is simple. And today's movie will take us from the paralysis of analysis into the glee of the present moment.

You cannot wake yourself, but you can allow yourself to be awakened. That's a big one. You cannot wake yourself means the personality self doesn't have a contribution to make. The only contribution you have to make is your willingness in your mind. When you're willing to heal false and distorted perceptions and join with the might and the glory of the Holy Spirit's great willingness, or we could say, it's the capability for healing, which is its function in healing. When your little willingness joins with that capability for healing, healing is ignited. The problems come in when the personality self tries to take responsibility for itself as a body as a person through its own learning.

There's no learning in heaven. God created you perfect. The spirit doesn't learn. So when we think about the Holy Instant, the Holy Instant is not learned. So we're entering into a whole different realm than human beings have ever known because all humans have ever known is the past repeating itself day after day. The ego has programmed us, and you may believe you have free will in this world, but that's all a projection from the unconscious mind. So if you sometimes feel like a robot, like you're just doing the same things repeatedly, it's because the ego invented time and space.

You see, we are brought up with a curriculum in judgment. If you go to school, you're learning a curriculum in judgment; even before you go to school, your parents and your siblings teach you a curriculum in judgment. Don't do this. Treat people this way. You know, it's full of judgments, and then we reach a point where we would rather pray, listen and follow the Spirit than judge, react and respond to the ego. Do you see the difference between those two modalities in the mind? That's what we're going for today.

The title of this workshop or retreat is "This Holy Instant," which is the most profound teaching in A Course in Miracles. Forgiveness takes you towards the Holy Instant, the present moment, the powerful now moment that releases the mind from time and space. That frees the mind from believing in the cosmos. The holy instant releases the mind from believing in bodies, from believing in separation, believing in differences, believing in hierarchies, from believing in better and worse.

Jesus would be standing in ovation, Buddha, Ramana Maharshi, Paramahansa Yogananda, and every saint in history would be standing up and going, Oh, bravo, I'm with you. David: I had just completed ten years of university, and then Jesus instructed me to delete my resume, and you know, I tried to throw all the papers away, but he said, No, go to your word processor and delete the memory of the resume, not just the paper.  I want that resume out of your mind now because I will teach you how to live in the given. 

I will teach you that I'll provide everything you need if you shine your light. If you'll just let me speak, laugh and smile through you and be happy. You don't have to learn and figure out what to do; that's the human problem. We have conflicting ideas from the past. Nobody agrees on anything. And then, we are supposed to make our life decisions based on our past learning. It doesn't work. You know, it's a trick. But if we make our way and let present trust lead the way, then what an adventure. Then you're on an adventure.

My Spirit-given Function with David Hoffmeister and Frances Xu

In the work with A Course in Miracles you start to realize it's more about undoing than doing. It's more about emptying the mind of everything you think you think and think you know and everything you believe is true. It's like all the Mystics and Saints of all the centuries have told us. Empty your mind and you will know the truth. It's very simple. And with this topic of My Spirit-given function, we can say that, in order to know the function that God gave you, and God gave you eternity, then you will have to unlearn a lot. 

Function in this world is associated with form and also associated with the body. And I can tell you that that has to be forgotten. We have to unlearn all of that, in order to live in the truth, because this world was made as a veil to keep us from knowing the truth.
