The harvest moon hangs, an orange harbinger 
impinging at the margins of our reality, 
fraying fringes with the force
 of stranger things than this, 
infringing upon the dawn’s orange glow, doubly so 
now in the refracted fire that hangs between us, 
a corpse on a noose, 
though truthfully the smoke is more 
the rope that chokes,
First us, then the moon
Because no more lunar-viewing life 
to muse upon her primal beauty 
as if it was their duty,
To croon her tune 
to woo a wounded love 
to view her light and wonder who
 imbues her with her wanton defiance
 Of the darkness 
that ever harkens to something insidious at her edges,
Without those who track the tides 
to ride inside aquatic curls 
that rise in ribbons 
or unfurl to the rhythm
 of her fickle will
Without some personifying mind 
to find meaning,
 refine divine gleanings 
from her pale gleaming,
Interpret earthly flickers 
through the clouds 
like whispers through a shroud,
Without humans
 her silent musings
 lose the life imbued in her by apprehension
she turns, tied taut to earth in turning tension,
Lifeless, yearning for a word like blue
