For its second release, Japanese label Blindetonation turns to The Sonic Emporium for a six track pack that features two top originals as well as fascinating remixes by Heretic, William Earl and Alejandro Molinari.
Blindetonation is an outlet for all manner of chugging disco sounds as influenced by label boss Kezokichi’s time in London DJing and hosting his own Back To Back events. The man behind the latest release is UK star The Sonic Emporium, who distills a love of all forms of dance music and a decade DJing and producing into his own intoxicating jams. He releases on Join Our Club and Wax: On and plies his wares all over the globe.
His first cut here, ‘Gemini Seven’ is a robust composition that has a sticky, stuttering bassline underpinning some ornamental synth patterns, spoken word vocal samples and dark drums. Tough to categorise but sure to do damage on machine music loving dance floors, it’s a fine opener. Remixing is William Earl, a UK talent just starting out but who is already impressing with his earliest forays. This one is a case in point: it’s a cosmic, deep and delicious rework with plunging bass, reverb heavy vocals and plenty of skyward melody.
The Sonic Emporium’s other original is ‘What Do You Think You Saw’ a much less oppressive affair with watery droplets, whining pads and chugging disco drums. It has freewheeling melodies rolling off the groove and is the sort of thing that takes dance floors higher and higher.
Heretic turns out two remixes of this one, with the first being a super slow and captivating chugger that traps you in a swampy groove and doesn’t let go. Instead, it treats you to a melodic opening of the clouds above your very head that offers a direct view into a perfectly cosmic sky. The second is a rock infused number with raucous drums that encourage you to get loose and is much more tense and tortured sounding. Italian DJ, composer and producer Alejandro Molinari then steps up for a remix and flips the track into a wonderful, beguiling affair that is both dark and menacing and freewheeling and summery. Colourful chords and quirky percussive patterns wrestle with churning drums and the result is a hugely refreshing, slowly hypnotic track.
This is a diverse disco package that takes the genre into titillating and unknown new territory.

The Native born Canadian, Sidney Sheldon Thompson aka Sid Le Rock (@sidlerock) has had a prolific career. Currently based in Berlin, he’s been releasing under various monikers such as Pan/ Tone and Gringo Grinder, with his newer persona Sid Le Rock a conduit for exploring various forms of electronic dance music. 

The High & Low EP sees him do just that. The title track is a midtempo groover that veers between electro-pop, 80s synth workouts, spacy experiments and motorik krautrock vibes - a head mix that works perfectly in Le Rock’s capable hands. 
The amusingly titled ‘Judas Beast’ comes from a similar direction, but the pulsing bassline and shuffling groove orientate it closer to the dancefloor. Beautifully designed sounds and melodies float in and out while the percussion remains constantly surprising and deeply funky throughout. 
‘Mosquito’ rounds out the release and is perhaps the most out and out club track - drawing on italo disco, synth pop and Le Rock’s innate knowledge of musical progression and development. A revelation of an EP!

bORDEL (@user-628750708)  continues to establish itself as an essential label with a fantastic new EP from @Turbotito featuring remixes from Mondowski and Max Pask.

As well as being one half of Daytime Disco duo Poolside and a member of Ima Robot and Djosos Krost, Filip is also a producer and has produced music for Bonde Do Role, Azealia Banks, Baby Alpaca and many more. He also runs an imprint for his own material but now steps out on bORDEL to showcase his silky skills.

We found it hard to pick a favourite but UK artist and long time dark electronic explorer @Mondowski skilful remix of ‘It’s Always The Same’ blew our mind...a tripped out and languid deep house cut with searching synths and daubs of melodic colour.

We're willing to put good money on Dixon's remix of 'The Dawn' being a staple of his summer sets this year and it's a pretty good bet. 

His remix puts a growling, fierce new take on the original and he swaps delicate tones for rumbling bass hits and synths that propel and drive the track forward with an intensity only he can conjure up.

An outstanding EP all round and a remix from Dixon that ranks as one of his best to date.

Side A begins with “Tukšums” a driving acid jam by Dmitry Distant that brings the energy level up to 11 and leaves it there.  Natural Magic’s “Most High” polishes off side A with a triumphantly positive romp that puts the love icing right on the cake.  Side B opens with “Artificial Joy” a breaky acid track by Dmitry Distant that will engross the dance floor with groovy sinister funk.  This release concludes with Natural Magic’s “Dude Can Dance” a drummy piece of hypnotic dance music that dabbles in experimentalism complete with aural hallucinations.  Dark Leader 003 is housed in a full color jacket featuring cover artwork by Myra Koza, design by Eric Adrian Lee, and mastered by Timothy Stollenwerk.

PREMIERE | Natural Magic - Most High [Dark Leader] 2017

Berlin DJ & producer Sascha Funke returns with his first solo album since 2008, with "Lotos Land" landing on Tokyo’s Endless Flight next month.
The album takes its title and artwork drawing inspiration from Alfred Tennyson’s 1833 poem, ‘The Lotos-Eaters’, a work that has taken on a particular relevance and fascination for Funke in light of the turbulent world events of 2016. The artwork, by Mule Musiq/Endless Flight & Smallville’s regular illustrator Stefan Marx, is itself an interpretation of a 1901 Lotos-Eaters-inspired illustration by British painter William Edward Frank Britten. 
Despite spending significant moments of his early career in Cologne, Sascha Funke is resolutely a product of the city of his birth, Berlin. It is with one of the city’s most famous techno labels, Ellen Allien’s BPitch Control, that Funke released his previous two solo LPs, with the last ‘Mango’ arriving nine years ago. Since then Funke has been largely focused on the Saschienne project alongside Julienne Dessagne, which issued its debut LP ‘Unknown’ through Kompakt in 2012 and has been a regularly touring live act in the years since. The past year has however seen a renewed focus on Funke’s solo productions, with two new EPs for Canadian imprints Multi Culti and Tiga’s Turbo Recordings. 
Funke credits his work with Dessagne as a key influence on the sound of his new record, which finds him moving into vibrantly diverse sounds more commonly associated with Endless Flight, Optimo Music and Kompakt’s Hippie Dance imprint, the latter pair of which have both released EPs from Dessagne’s Fantastic Twins solo project. Having previously worked almost exclusively with samples and at a computer, these new associations led to a renewed focus on live & analogue instrumentation, utilizing an arsenal of different synths that allowed Funke to engage more emotionally with the music he created. Those instruments included a Korg Arp Odyssey, a Dave Smith Prophet 8, the Moog Voyager and a Solina string keyboard. Meanwhile the tracks ‘Comala’ and ‘Im Feiern Und Feuer’ enlisted the talents of vocalists David Wilson (of another Optimo Music-affiliated act, Glasgow four-piece Junto Club) & Emily Evans, and Tel Aviv live performer Autarkic, who has to date appeared on Disco Halal, Golf Channel and Turbo. With their contributions expanding the album’s emotional landscape, this new approach led Funke to the album’s musical blend of trance, techno, synth-wave, post-punk and ambient that captures perfectly the themes of altered states and community vs individualism that form the heart of Tennyson’s poem and are now explored on Sascha Funke's own adventure in Lotos Land.

Roam Recordings hits its 40th release with the No Smoke EP from Spanish production duo K-Effect (aka David Martin and Diego Gomez). K-Effect have been showcasing their unique sound of ethereal stylish electronic music over the last few years with a prolific streak of music on labels such as Logical, Tici-Taci, Nein, and Emerald and Doreen. 

K-Effect’s new EP for Roam Recordings features two new original productions from the duo. New Steam Machine is a stylish mid-tempo chugger with 80s influenced arp work that twist and turn through its off kilter percussion while Heisenberg moves in a more chilled out direction incorporating live bass with synth melodies that take this tune into deep heady territory.

Accompanying the two originals are two excellent remixes. The first is from Scottish producer MR BC who also has an excellent range of releases on Logical, Tici-Taci, and Nein, as well as Tunnyl and Sub:Sonic. For this release MR BC takes on New Steam Machine with a lovely remix featuring a tight groove under a melodic acid line. The second remix comes from Thomaas Banks (the darker solo project from Tom Coveney of Psychemagik). Thomaas Banks toughens up this EP with an excellent industrial influenced version of Heisenberg that hits all the right places and hits ‘em hard.

Roam Recordings is proud to present the No Smoke EP as the latest addition to its ever growing catalogue. With a release planned every 2-3 weeks you can expect to hear a lot more from this label in 2017.

We asked Man Power for some words about this release and he told us -

"Both tracks sound different, but they're both from the same place in as much as they represent a conscious effort by me to strip back some of unnecessary niceties in my music and really sharpen my focus on what makes people dance without crossing the fine line of what makes me sound like me.”
