David Mayer is a boundary-defying producer and DJ whose sonic palette has been shaped by an extraordinary multicultural upbringing spanning Germany, Spain, Norway, and ultimately Berlin, where he settled in 2004. This rich tapestry of cultural influences has cultivated his distinctive approach to music—one that refuses to be confined by genre conventions. No matter the genre, his passion for funked-up, pounding four-on-the-floor beats dominates his creative output. When spinning records and producing tracks, he presents his interpretation of catchiness, blending techno and house, and adds a touch of depth, but always keeps an eye on making his audience move and groove.

Crossing borders is a familiar experience to David Mayer. Though being born in south Germany, he spent most of his youth living in Norway and (for a change) in Lanzarote, before Berlin happened to become his home in 2004. With key-releases on Connected, Objektivity and Keinemusik alongside remixes on Kompakt, Get Physical and Rise Music Berlin he has forged a reputation as a producer and touring DJ.

As he prefers thinking outside the box, Mayer has always been equally interested in listening to and experimenting with diverse forms of music, no matter what musical genre they derive from, although his passion for funked up and heavily pounding 4/4 beats clearly dominates his creative output. Early tracks like “Fortune”, “Word Is Bond”, “Celsius” and “Sunhole” just as the more recent "Drained" featuring Sooma, "Movement", "Sirocco" and his several remixes are characterized by an intriguing knack for detail and precise sound design. Both when spinning records and producing tracks, he is presenting his own interpretation of catchyness, mixing up Techno and percussive House, adding a little deepness, but always keeping an eye on making his audience shake some.

Only leaving his desk in order to indulge some serious clubbing, this guy knows about priorities. With a solid and continuous stream of output under his belt, it is always of interest what David Mayer is up for next.

Having finally settled in Berlin, the German DJ and producer has built up an enviously diverse back catalogue on labels such as Connected Frontline, Objektivity, Gruuv, Audiomatique and Keinemusik. With his first release on Acid Pauli and Nico Stojan’s Ouie label, Mayer brings his trademark groove to the fore once more.

'The Call' is a mid tempo chugger built around a kick, clap and 808 blip, before a more organic groove develops. The slowed down chants and wigged out synth line take the vibe into afro cosmic territory, without losing the original energy.

'Sooner' is a little more urgent - a crisp, forward leaning rhythm and a deep, subby bass lead the way, before another frazzled synthesiser takes us on a melodic walkabout.

'Black Queen' is another example of Mayer’s slick drum programming, keeping things zesty on the dance floor but with acres of space to lose yourself in.

The digital bonus track - 'The Girl With No Name', introduces a sublime kalimba melody and esoteric percussion, sitting nicely within a slo-mo house vibe.

David Mayer continues to stir up the electronic music scene with his latest EP 'The Call', a cosmic and tribalistic cut that has already been supported by various renowned DJs. Based in Berlin but musically settled all around the world David Mayer has implemented a characteristic trademark sound on his own over the years, influenced by various visits abroad. Essential parts of the aforementioned 'Mayer-Sound' are his elusive skills to create driving bass lines and pair them with simple sounding but complex cosmic chords and chants. 'The Call' focuses on the latter in the most effective manner. Built around a kick, clap and 808 blip the track introduces its listener to further organic soundscapes throughout the track as the chopped and screwed down vocal enfolds the wigged out synth line to create spheric moments on the dance floor.

Kompakt sub-label Connected, run by Terranova and Stereo MC's, have enlisted a strong cast of producers to supply material on the 'Connected Selected' compilation, including Tim Engelhardt who reimagines David Mayer's 'Drained' into a deep and melodic techno cut.

Hailing from Germany, Tim Engelhardt has been generating a strong buzz in clubland with a string of releases on Poker Flat, Parquet Recordings, Vivrant and Fryhide, as well as a live show that's in high-demand. His latest remix showcases the hypnotic and haunting techno essence of his musical persona, a style he's explored throughout his flourishing career. 

The 'Connected Selected' compilation, which includes music by Florian Busse, Re.you, Nandu, Rebootm Stereo MC's and much more, is set for release September 7.

David Mayer returns to Ouïe following his well received The Call EP from 2018 and The Circle recently released on the new sublabel Ouïe Circle. 
Though being born in south Germany, Mayer grew up between Norway and Lanzarote, perhaps a clue to his expansive and border- less sound. 
Here he brings three new tracks to the label from Acid Pauli and Nico Stojan. Title track Skanda is a psychedelic trip through firing percussive elements, wonky synths, distorted vocals and an unstoppable groove. 
Snake Dance has a similarly unhinged feel, building around a one note bassline and crisp, rolling drums before heading to the stratosphere with sparkling arpeggios. 
On the vinyl, there’s the exclusive Ouroboros Track - an 8 minute odyssey into Mayer’s interest in hypnotic percussion and psychedelic track structures 
The digital release includes Raga, another percussion work out with a slowly unfurling groove before the South Asian melodies add a new level.
