"Moonlight Serenade" is an American swing ballad composed by Glenn Miller with subsequent lyrics by Mitchell Parish. It was an immediate phenomenon when released in May 1939 as an instrumental arrangement, though it had been adopted and performed as Miller's signature tune as early as 1938, even before it had been given the name "Moonlight Serenade". “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.”
Proverbs 3:3-4

When you think about love we can look at how it is defined in 1 Corinthians. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” Only doing works without love is just noise to God! Love is vital in our life.

When you look at faithfulness and wonder if you are faithful you can check to see if you have loopholes in your circumstances and relationships. If someone has loopholes, then they keep a way out, so they don’t have to stay faithful. Faithfulness requires suffrage and it requires you to do without sometimes, but this pleases the Lord!

For love and faithfulness to be written on the tablets of your heart you must spend time with God, abide with Him. What you meditate on is what is written on your heart! How can you expect to find favor with God and man if you are not faithful with God where you are at? In this wisdom moment, we uncover what the path of a believer is.

“Stern discipline awaits anyone who leaves the path; the one who hates correction will die.” Proverbs 15:10

What path is the scripture referring to? “Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Jesus’ teachings are the path that believers are to walk on! The Word of God lets us know where we are on the path and where we are in life. It will light up our path so that we know where we are walking.

When we become believers, we must start on the path of discipleship to learn how to stay on this path and to stay rightly related to Jesus. When the Lord leads us, it is a straight path; it is not complicated.

“Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many. I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble.” Proverbs 4:10-12

America’s Church has left the path of discipleship, and the Proverbs say the Church will have stern discipline. The Church must turn back to the path and be discipled and learn the ways of Jesus! Discipline is to help to change a person’s ways and discipline from God should lead us to draw closer to Him. Even Jesus had to learn obedience through His sufferings!

“Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 5:8-10

When we go through sufferings in life, we become a source for others to come to Christ. Stay on the path! If you have not been discipled, get discipled today! Or you may need help to lead others on the path of discipleship; you can start the journey on the path of discipleship today on Emmaus Road.
