This brought the duo of Michelle Drew and Phillip Hill - originally from Denmark and Germany respectively - to the fore and preceded the release of the 'Solitude' EP on Born Electric, a prime example of their melodic and crooning approach to to production.

DEAD CERT. Records is a label devoted to techno in various forms. Having made its first release in July 2013 it’s been an incredible start for the new imprint, with releases featuring Audio Injection (Truncate) and Hans Bouffmyhre amongst an impressive roster of artists. It’s clear to see why the label has been seen in set lists and charts from people including Cari Lekebusch, Dave Clarke and Rebekah. 

Set up by duo William Welt and Jack! Who?, the label is linked to the now infamous Death Techno mix series, that has guests including Joachim Spieth, Mike Wall and Miss Sunshine amongst many others. 

William and Iain met through the North East of England’s club scene where they regularly found themselves DJ'ing at the same parties. William who plays both House and Techno already ran 22 Digit Records which focuses on house and deep techno. Iain mentioned he was looking to launch a label linked to his mix show, William saw this as the perfect opportunity to explore his darker side and DEAD CERT. was born. 

After over a year of releasing music in a digital format it seemed the logical step for the label to start pressing vinyl, this being the first in a series of four track, vinyl only releases. This new branch of the label to be entitled “DEADCERTBLACK” will be pressing limited runs of 300 units. 

The first release sees William Welt and Jack! Who? step out from the shadows and take the spot light with three of their own productions. Two of which are collaborations and the third is a solo production from William Welt that gets the remix treatment from DJ Spider. 

The first track on the EP titled “Stalker” is the sole production from William and as the title suggests it’s a twisted monster hungry for prey. Thick hi-hats and a heavy clap rhythm hold the groove whilst pulsating filters breathe life into the menacing bass line. The track’s vibe is broken only for a split second when warm pads cut through the mix like a short lived break in the clouds on an otherwise dark and stormy day. 

Based in New York (USA) Rob Hampton aka DJ Spider is known for his love of vinyl and all things analogue. Having releases on trend setting labels like Killekill he also heads up Plan B Recordings along with Sublevel Sounds and Beneath The Underground Music. Keeping the original tracks dark vibe DJ Spider puts his own twisted spin on Stalker and stripped back the sound to create space for his own robotic ambience. Filled with machine like percussion and cracks of reverb he uses sparse FX to create a soundscape with just enough bite to keep the dancefloor moving. 

“Creeper” is the first of the two collaborations and Jack! Who?’s presence is instantly felt. With a groove that’s firmly focused at the dancefloor the track is both tense and spacious. Metallic hi-hats combine with murky percussion that flutters like the beating wings of an oversized insect. Although percussion led, the track is layered with growling bass swells and monstrous FX which keeps it both captivating and intense. 

The second of the two collaborations entitled “Lurker” is the fourth and final track on the release. Clean and full, the track is the deepest on the EP and provides perfect contrast to complete the package. Focusing on metallic pad sounds, it has a strong dub influence and a flowing groove. Very much a game of two halves it’s the perfect tool to make the transition between warm up and peak time, as Introduced in the main break is a lead pad that takes it up a gear.

Hong Kong is the home of a new project called Dorian Sensation. The label head known as R_L (@R_L-1) has gone it alone after releases with Subsist Records, Concrete and We Are.

Picking up support already from many top artists like Speedy J, Silent Servant, The Black Dog, Edit Select and Brendon Moeller for example, R_L is on the right track as he pushes an experimental and industrial sound of Techno.

For this DT:Premiere we selected the remix by Singaporean @Xhin, where he converts the originals broken beat into a melting pot of ethereal emotions and twisted soundscapes. There’s a lot of elements to study and get lost in that will appeal to those who like to be swept away on mind adventures and delve that little deeper.

Contrasting with the pounding style, the fragile melody provides an eerie atmosphere that ripples across the track to create a captivating mix of textures and allure.

The ODD / EVEN (@ODD-EVEN-1) label project from Germany is headed up by established producer @Andre-Kronert and with only a small amount of releases under its belt, has already featured artists like Jonas Kopp, Pfirter, NX1, Jeroen Search, Dimi Angelis amongst others.

Their sixth offering called By Night EP is the newest package from production juggernaut @Johannes-Heil-Official from Frankfurt, who is known for releases spanning the likes of Heiko Laux’s Kanzleramt, Sven Väth’s Cocoon and Len Faki’s Figure.

For this DT:Premiere we selected track two simply named “By Night Part Two” that wastes no time by launching into a tough and driving rhythm. The pressure builds from delayed waves as they open up with intensity and become the main focus under the jackin’ beat. A fine DJ tool is created that is full of energy and hypnotic bliss in the right hands.

Part two from the Out Of Place (@out-of-place-735125464) records camp is finally here. Based in Croatia, the new label project is ran by Volster and @Miss_Sunshine who introduces her new alias Insolate following a release highly respected imprint from DJ Deep called Deeply Rooted in France.

Renew is a vinyl only release that covers hypnotic and glitchy sounds to energetic acid influenced flows. The second original track we chose for this DT:Premiere goes by “Deep In The Shades” and it’s moody, driving style is totally compelling. The eerie atmosphere and modular twangs make this a real functional DJ tool with heaps of character.

Little Helpers is a conceptual digital label courtesy of Andrew Rasse (a.k.a. Butane) and Sean O'Neal (a.k.a. Someone Else) launched in December 2009. Each release on Little Helpers is a strong, reduced groove-tool aimed to satisfy the increasing number of digital DJs. Much like the traditional locked groove vinyl, these tracks are suitable for looping, editing and layering. Yet at the same time, each track has enough variation to stand on its own. German heavyweight label Nachtstrom Schallplatten is dropping an album from the duo known as Joyless.

A vibrant project made up of none other than Funk D'Void and Dave Tarrida that have already released on Housemeister’s AYCB label and Martyn Hare’s Emetic, following an EP earlier this year on Nachtstrom with a banging remix from Clouds under the new alias.

From the abstract and experimental selection of tracks on Tyranny Of The Majority we selected “Dark Horse” for this DT:Premiere for it’s bouncing sinister groove. The stuttering heavy toms lay the ground work, combined with plenty of twisted effects and sweeping atmospherics, it still manages to hold a sense of fun amongst it’s gritty sound.

A diverse palette has seen their previous releases feature music from artists including Audio Injection / Truncate, Hans Bouffmyhre, Joachim Spieth, Miss Sunshine, DJ Spider and Eomac to name but a few. 

Aleksandar Grum also known as Redial Tone returns with an EP featuring new original works on "Hope & Despair" after a well received track called "22:22" last year. The leading Montenegro DJ and Producer is on the rise with a string of releases on Re:Axis' Monocline, Coeter's Kaputt, Subsist and Authentic Pew amongst others. Having shared the booth with people such as Jeff Mills, Chris Liebing, Lewis Fautzi and Miss Sunshine he is one to keep a close eye on. 

Also featuring on remix duty are UK based Paul Mac and Soolee from South Korea. 

Paul is widely considered a legend of the UK scene, having chalked up more than 20 years in the music industry. Spearheading label projects such as Stimulus and C-Side, he has also released music on the likes of James Ruskin's Blueprint, Oscar Mulero's Warm Up and Heiko Laux's Kanzleramt. 

Seoul is the home of Soolee, the head of More Than Less Records and curator of the renowned Less N Less podcast. With a production catalogue that includes Alex Bau's Credo, Submerge's Impact Mechanics and Joton's Newrhythmic, his sound is highly regarded and respected. 

"Hope" is the first offering, an infectious stripped back groove, sets it off to the races. A vocal hook joins in, growls and murmurs provide more depth, all the while remaining crunchy and textured. 

The first remix from Paul Mac opts for a completely new and energetic jam. A rolling and morphing synth adds some colour to a tough and jacking beat. This quirky rework takes you on a ride with a unique twist. 

Soolee dives in with a powerful groove, driving its way through hypnotic elements and spaced out sounds. Quite the contrast to the original version, this serious bruiser means business and is sure to destroy dancefloors the world over. 

"Despair" is a somewhat experimental, yet functional floor worker. The drum rhythms and abstract delays create a sense of tension before waves of hi-hats and cymbals crash into the mix. Eerie bleeps add an ethereal edge to this creative Techno piece that will stand out in any DJ set.
