After two years of playing in multiple venues in Paris and across France, Mawimbi is now a label. MWB001 is a 4-tracker 12 inch record focusing on various expressions of the afro-centric musical influence in modern club music. The record will be followed shortly by a digital release, containing 5 additional tracks by like-minded producers.

"More Sekele Movement" (A1) is a much sought after Cameroonese afro-disco stomper, here remixed by Vulkandance residents Africaine 808. "Sogoni Kalimba" (A2) is a deep journey into the healing tones of the kalimba by 10 Foot Ballerina, an Atlanta-via-Detroit-via-Berlin native now renewing the links with his ancestry studying music in Windhoek, Namibia.

"Ketjak" (B1) by Parisian producer Loâzo may very well be the most out there track, starting with a rather goofy asbtract hip-hop beat before pushing things up to 110bpm and building up a climax with its shouting vocals and distorted, techno drum patterns. "Afrikaan Beat 2.0" (B2) is by no means your generic afro-house track, drawing instead in the best UK bass has to offer while taking it to the next level with typical afrobeat drum patterns and ghetto house chopped-up vocals.

The Los Angeles DJ/Producer/Remixer David Montoya has gained notoriety as one of LA's top AfroHouse Producers. Featured in many record labels such as Pieces of Life, MoBlack Records, Defected Records, Cabeau Music, Open Bar Music, Polyrhythm Music, United Music, Vida Records, Leisure Music Productions,, Uncover Music, NULU Music, D.M. Recordings, Tribe Records, Sole Channel Music, Tru Thoughts, and many more.

But who is he? Raised in Los Angeles. The beginning of his musical journey started in the 80's and 90's, he developed a taste for a wide array of musical styles such as Hip Hop, Freestyle, Funk, Nu Wave and Latin Music. In 1991 he bought his first DJ set up and began mixing Hip Hop, House and Techno Music. As time went on, David honed his skills in the production studio as well as behind the DJ decks and steadily built a name for himself worldwide.
He has DJed events around the world such as RISE (Watergate,Berlin), SUNCEBEAT (Croatia and Portugal), Hong Kong, Amsterdam, New York, Boston, Playa Del Carmen, Las Vegas, Toronto, Chicago, Oakland, West Coast Weekender, SOULEIL (San Diego), Grand Park (Los Angeles). He's been fortunate to share the decks with the likes of Enoo Napa, Hyenah, Manoo, Shimza, DJEFF Aluku Rebels, MoBlack, and many more. David has been hosting a podcast on Soundcloud called Modern Soul Radio since 2007.
