I had a though this other day that I need to make the greatest Jungle mix of all times, so I started thinking about the playlist.

Every “middle aged junglist” (which I am also) knows that there’s no better track ever made than “The Nine”.

Well, “The Nine” is legendary, but one cannot make a mix out of just 1 track, so I needed something to be mixed with “The Nine”, and what could be better than “The Nine”? Of course “The Nine”! But remastered…

So the playlist was ready, but I realised I only own the original of “The Nine” on vinyl, so was time to order the remastered version, which I did. Because you cannot make the greatest Jungle mix of all times using digital tracks, no-f*cking way !

And while I was waiting for the vinyl to arrive, I realised I have another issue. I use a Pioneer DJM-909, which is too digital for this purpose, and even has a touch screen ! It is a great mixer, but a true “middle aged junglist” doesn’t use such a digital tool to mix “The Nine”, it is unacceptable. So it was time to look for a true analogue mixer that will sound proper.

I had in mind the idea to get a Soundcraft Urei 1605 for a long time, so started hunting for one. At first, I thought it is not going to work, because the cheapest one I could find on the market was 1500Euro. But a few days later I was rewarded with a broken mixer almost for free! The only problem was that it was broken, so I started working on a fix.

After a few weeks the mixer was finally working, and I was able to start.

I carefully washed the vinyl before mixing, properly cleaned the styluses of my beloved Shure 44-7 (because we don’t accept ortofons here, obviously), and recorded it in one go.

I could spend some hours and think about the transitions, prepare and exercise, but this is all artificial, it doesn’t sound real and live. The only mixes that are “true” are the ones recorded live and without any preparations, so is this one!
