Turin-based audiovisual collective SPIME.IM is thrilled to announce their highly anticipated album ‘Grey Line’. The release explores the intricate nuances of the grey scale within the contemporary landscape, encapsulating the complexities of human experiences and the choices we encounter in an interconnected society. 

With ‘Grey Line’, SPIME.IM continue to carve out their distinct place among contemporary music innovators, balancing between - and deconstructing - various club genres. Each track is intimately connected to a specific gradation of grey, creating a unique musical journey through the nuances of existence. The album also features two exceptional guests: Stina Fors and Lorem. Stina Fors contributes her captivating vocals to the opening track ‘Crystal’, adding a concealed human element to the mix. It is a genuine human voice that assumes the role of an artificial one. Lorem, in ‘Pure’, performs the exact opposite. He utilises trained AI models to incorporate hip hop screamo vocals, bringing a sleek and intense touch to the album, and blurring the boundaries between human and artificial voices. This unique fusion enhances the album’s experimental essence and pushes the boundaries of musical collaboration. SPIME.IM explain: «In an era filled with contradictions and uncertainties, we delve into the emotional landscape we find ourselves in — an interval between the decline of the old and the construction of the new». ‘Grey Line’ offers a pathway to escape the monotony and embrace the richness and diversity hidden within the greyscale, promising to be a thought-provoking and immersive musical experience that allows listeners to explore the nuances of diverse gradations of reality.

SPIME.IM is a forward-thinking artistic collective that explores the aesthetics of digital reality through transmedia music projects. With a fusion of cutting-edge technology, 3D art, and electronic music, they craft immersive audiovisual experiences that challenge our understanding of identity and corporeality. Their recent collaboration with acclaimed pianist and composer Lubomyr Melnyk and cellist Julia Kent on «The End Of The World» garnered critical acclaim, including a notable performance at the Barbican Centre in London. As Bright Patterns completes its fourth trip around the sun, we welcome Imaginary Softwoods as the special guest for November. It’s been a dream of mine to have John Elliott on the show. He’s been a part of so many incredible projects: Mist, Outer Space, Organic Dial, Emeralds—not to mention all of the eternally awesome records that were released via his expert curation on Spectrum Spools. It’s a treasure trove. All that said, the vast output of John’s solo project, Imaginary Softwoods, sits firmly atop this immense pile of sonic wonder. So many of these cuts have been played on Bright Patterns over the last four years. It is a vibe I carry with me, one that’s deeply embedded in my relationship to music. The last time I heard a mix from John was 2017 and I still talk about how good it is. With all of the gratitude to everyone who listens, I hope you’ll enjoy this mix of what he’s been listening to lately. Designed as a bit of a balm for a world in pain, it covers contemporary selections with a few new age classics, reflecting the daily eclecticism of his auditory diet. It also ushers in a new era for Bright Patterns, where it will run from 9am to 10am ET with the same Thursday cadence as it has been, each month, since the beginning.

Debut solo album of dreamy, drony sonic landscapes from Tomat - released 5th of March 2012 on Monotreme Records.

Tomat is the solo project of Davide Tomat from Torino, Italy. He is also the chief songwriter and lyricist of the bands N.A.M.B. and Niagara. His solo debut album under the name Tomat showcases the more experimental side of his music.

The background of the album, according to Davide Tomat:

“This record came to life in 6 days from the 1st to the 6th of June 2010.
Each song is matched to an historical event that happened between the 1st and the 6th of June during human history.

I did a solo real time improvisation session for 6 days in my studio, recording each session in multi-track recordings, using only my voice, an analog monophonic sythesizer and a guitar through effects, loopers, computer and samplers, creating layers over layers of voices, sythesizers and guitar. No over dubs.

After 6 days of improvisation and 7 hours of music, on the 7th of June I started listening to all the music, isolating different tracks...at the end I had 36 different tracks.

I thought about the idea that something that had happened in these 6 days in human history may have inspired me while I was putting out this music and these emotions.

So I did some research about the events that happened in the past between the 1st and the 6th of June and I matched each track to a different event. I tried to mach things and emotions that could be compatible, emotions that somehow inspired me in creating this music.

I isolated 21 tracks to work on and then after some edits I mixed 11 songs and I mastered them on the 7th of September 2011.

This record is made 90% by vocals and 10% by an analog monofonic sythesizer and a guitar. It's a drony experimental record that evokes sonic landscapes.”
