On May 25th 2024, to accompany the launch of his Arthur Russell book "Travels Over Feeling" Richard King put together an event at London's Barbican celebrating Arthur's life with an all star musical cast recreating and reimagining his music.

I was thrilled to be invited to play a DJ set in the foyer afterwards. I have been an Arthur Russell devotee for 30 years and decided to play an all Arthur Russell DJ set*. The atmosphere was very special with lots of love transmitting back and forth from the DJ booth to the dancefloor. I really felt a freedom to slowly build it up playing so many of my favourite AR tracks and it was one of my very favourite DJ gis of 2024 so far.


*Full disclosure - there was an additional 30 minutes finale of this set that didn't record where I played non Arthur Russell, disco / disco adjacent records.

There was a problem with the recorder that caused a second-long dropout in the left channel every 20 seconds. I did a manual fix by copying over the audio from the right channel to fill the gaps; IMO it's almost unnoticeable, unless you're listening for it. I also did a more elaborate fix that papers over those moments, BUT the mix ended up losing some dynamics and stereo separation. I prefer the one uploaded here, but if you find the glitches too distracting, you can download the other version from the link below.

Through adversity, we find strength. This year was not without its challenges but it was without a doubt the most wonderful opportunity for growth I have ever had the good fortune to experience. Life is a gift and the human connections we make every day are all that will matter in the end. 

This set for me is a celebration of life and newfound inspiration, I sincerely hope you find joy in listening to it. Thank you to all of the incredible artists who continue to inspire me every day. As Matthew Caws said "the weight is a gift".

Lane 8 Fall 2025 Mixtape

Whoever you are, and no matter what your musical preference, there is a good chance you have danced to a Kieran Hebden beat before now. The London man best known as Four Tet has done everything in his career, from glistening indie-licked electronica albums to pumping bass and garage mixes for Fabric via collaborations with Steve Reid and Burial, shows on NTS and plenty of club ready projects on his own Text label. We have long been a fan, and recently he played for us at Dekmantel Festival. 

The results were recorded and we present them to you here as our latest podcast. As you would expect, it is hard to put into words what the man aims for, and achieves, across the course of two hours, but suffice it to say it will surely be the most adventurous mix you hear for a while. From niche Indian music to classic house, dirty STL cuts to synthetic tech and Latin tinged funk, he stitches together a wild ride full of smooth left turns and dazzling curveballs that will make you want to loosen every limb in your body and shake till you drop. We already have done once back in early August, and now we surely will do again and again and again.

Released in October 2017, this mix was previously only available on a limited cassette from Brevity Tapes and featured a separate mix from Karl Meier on the flip side. The approach was to do something slightly different than the average podcast or live mix, instead reaching a bit deeper into our collections and present a dynamic narrative with the framework of a 45 minute cassette tape. This one was super fun to put together and features a range of IDM and electro tracks from Dynamo, Andrea Parker, Aphex Twin, Peder Mannerfelt, DMX Krew, Sleeparchive, and more.
