The Dolmen really are one of Weymouth's underated treasures.  It must be about time they were given a showcase concert somewhere in the town.  The Nothe Fort would be perfect!

Johnnie Walker Tribute Mix

We were deeply saddened to hear that Johnnie Walker passed away on New Year's Eve. A tribute was made to Johnnie in The Ship Inn last night. Today,  Alfred is broadcasting a selection of interviews recorded with the Radio 2 star over the years.

He shares insights into his radio career, his time on the pirate ships, and some of his work with commercial radio and Radio 2. In an interview recorded at Johnnie’s Hartgrove home two days before his final Radio 2 broadcast in October 2024, he reveals his favourite current broadcaster. This was recorded shortly before his terminal pulmonary fibrosis condition meant he could no longer continue broadcasting.

We wanted to share Johnnie’s passion for Shaftesbury. He talks about some of the characters he loved in our town and the places that anchored him to Shaftesbury for decades.

Anyone who knew Johnnie understood his sense of spirituality and belief that some decisions were predetermined—a perspective he applied to Shaftesbury. He also shares his clear love for Tiggy, his wife and soulmate, and gives a sense of the fun he brought to life.

Johnnie speaks about his comfort in his firm belief in an afterlife, stemming from an interview he recorded at a Bristol commercial radio station with a psychic police officer who uncovered information only Johnnie could have known.
