Our new single Hegemony is coming out midsummer. It's a hybrid of traditional song Sweet Lemeney, collected by The Copper Family, with lyrics from Green Gartside's reinterpretation in 1978 and our own arrangement.

It's being released as a 7” vinyl with download link, along with b-side The Devil and the Farmer.

It was only last year we realised Hegemony's folkloric links and that it had been inspired by the traditional song Sweet Lemeney, that's traditionally sung at midsummer. The melody we've used is closer to the traditional version and I'm grateful to Green Gartside for allowing us to use his ever relevant lyrics without hearing what we would do with it.

Anna Pancaldi Ponders Loss in “How Do I Live With The Blues”

London-based singer-songwriter, Anna Pancaldi returns this year with her soul-bearing new single, “How Do I Live With The Blues”. Full of heart, Anna continues to connect with her audience through her vulnerability and honesty. 
Pouring out lyrics of haunting temperament through her deep, ghostly voice, Pancaldi leaves our ears and hearts heavy through an emotional performance of “How Do I Live With The Blues.” Though it is simple in arrangement, the unguardedness of the song exposes moments of happiness, pain through lyrics like “I never got to say goodbye” and “I don’t believe that there’s a reason for the weight of tragedy.”

Loss is a grief that will call to us all throughout life and like so many others, there are immeasurable questions as to why we must suffer it. I wrote this song to speak of grappling through the pain. My hope is that this song can reach those in need of it from my version of a broken heart to theirs.” 
Influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell, Jeff Buckley and Carol King, Anna Pancaldi’s mature vocals and thought-provoking music promises her to be someone to remember. With three Top Ten's in the singer songwriter iTunes charts, Anna has gone on to tour in the US, performed on CBS LA TV, had music featured on hit US TV shows such as ‘Pretty Little Liars’ and ‘Famous in Love’. My journey started in 1983 and initially my ambition was simply to be competent enough on guitar to be in a band.

That ambition grew over the years and through perseverance and commitment to my love of music I managed to find a style that is all my own. Of course as writers we all have our influences and I'm no exception. Mine include, Lennon and McCartney, Van Morisson Peter Green, Stevie Wonder, Nick Drake and many more.

The great writers and producers Gamble and Huff, who were responsible for the sound of Philadelphia were also huge influences on me with there wonderful tunes and arrangements.

Songwriting is a craft and has to be learnt over time. Some artists flourish quickly as in the case of the wonderful Nick Drake. Some, like me, need more time. We are not all geniuses!

It is critical to find a producer who understands you as an artist and I have been very fortunate to work with my co-producer Ivan Anchant for many years. Ivan first and forermost is a great musician, the fact that he is also a great producer and engineer has been my good fortune and allowed me to make some fine recordings, of which I am very proud.

I write from the heart and rely solely on the inspiration of the moment. I see songs as gifts and have learnt to cherish those gifts and remind myself to try never to take them for granted.

I have written my fair share of garbage in the past, so I take more time these days. If I feel a song is not worth recording I simply move on.

My CD 'Something Real' is a reflection of me and what I really care about. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did making it.
