Joey Muniz

In 1995, Joey started his Dj career in the Tampa, Florida area and has played multiple venues ranging his sound from house, techno, downtempo, hip hop and other genres depending on the type of booking.  Joey has held DJ residencies at multiple venues in the Florida, DC and Virginia areas.  He has released four albums under his label Funktribe Records, one remix of DJ Wu's 'Beloved' track for organic sounds and provided a house track 'Boogie Nights' for the Transmission Volume 2 electronic compilation. Currently Joey can be found at his 5 year and going DJ residency at club Gua Rapo as well as other venues.

'I've been involved with music all my life.  I started out playing guitar in punk rock bands and in the early 90s got into electronic music both as a DJ and producer.  I played night clubs all over Florida while in high school and college opening for djs such as Kevin Sanderson, Terry Mullen, Kimball Collins LTJ Bukem, T1000, etc as well as holding residencies at clubs in Tampa, Gainesville and Tallahassee Florida. Later I moved to the Washington, DC area in 2003 and started Djing at various venues such as Nation, Five, Gua Rapo, Cada Vez, Gazuza, etc. 

The Bedroom Rockers Project

The Bedroom Rockers concept started in Tallahassee, Florida at a weekly partly at club Late Night Library and Om Lounge known as Liquid Nights. These parties features acid jazz, funk, atmospheric drum n bass as well other experimental sounds … basically martini chill-out music rather than a dance club setting. I later hosted a similar party for a few years at club Gazuza in Washington DC and featured live mixsets as well as other down tempo offerings to push the lounge sound. Ladymaroo and I started working together to spice up some of the instrumentals I produced for these parties, which eventually morphed into a dedicated music project known as the Bedroom Rockers. The Bedroom Rockers project came in and out of focus while we worked on hiphop productions for the group Mathpanda as well as maintained our solo dj careers and other side production projects. One day after a few Bedroom Rocker shows and years of production we took a step back and realized we should take what was once a music driven side hobby and bring it to life.
