Estimados todos, Hace ya mucho tiempo, más de 10 años, una persona que conocía me llamó porque quería comentarme un asunto importante. Quedamos a comer y me planteó de qué se trataba. Esta persona era el propietario de una discoteca que debía ser relanzada si quería mantenerse abierta. Y el gerente iba a ser yo mismo. Era entonces un gran reto, la ubicación era complicada, la situación económica era muy complicada, y los condicionantes que imponían las autoridades complicadísimos por decir algo. Pero había materia prima. Teníamos una gran sala, un buen equipo de sonido, un equipo de iluminación inmenso, y sobre todo, muchas ganas por parte del propietario y mía de hacer algo importante, algo reconocible, y sobre todo, algo duradero en el tiempo. Recuerdo que el primer mes estuve trabajando largas horas para tener todo listo el día de la reapertura, sin ni siquiera haber abierto. Publicidad, plantilla, aspectos técnicos, mil cosas que había que rediseñar y relanzar para tener éxito. Mi pasión por la música venía de ya hace muchos años, y de hecho tenía tanto conocimientos técnicos de sonido, como habilidades como DJ. Pero no era mi música ni mi estilo el que allí se iba a escuchar; por aquél entonces la música más dura era la que triunfaba y movía masas, y nuestra apuesta tenía que ir por ahí. Yo desconocía en gran medida estos estilos musicales, y de hecho, la única cosa sobre la que no tuve decisión para ese relanzamiento fue sobre lo que considero la piedra angular en un negocio de este tipo: El DJ. Mi jefe ya me había ido comentando que estaba cerrando la contratación de una nueva promesa que estaba revolucionando la provincia de Zaragoza con sus sesiones. Era sangre nueva, sangre joven, pero con la garantía que podía dar haber crecido a la sombra de una gran figura como era y es Javier Aznar Vicente (Javi Aznar), al cual ya había tenido la ocasión de conocer 10 años antes. Qué mayores nos hacemos… Un día, llegó el momento de conocer a este joven, vino a comer con nosotros, y pude finalmente llegar a saludar por primera vez a esa pequeña gran persona, Eduardo Gascón Pérez. Estuvimos un rato charlando, viendo el estado de la discoteca y si había algo que adaptar o ajustar a sus necesidades, charlamos un poco sobre música (la verdad es que aún entendía bastante poco sobre todos aquellos estilos de que me hablaba), la idea de línea de trabajo musical que pensaba llevar, pero sobre todo, él me dejaba muy claro que no me tenía que preocupar para nada de ese aspecto porque lo tenía totalmente controlado. Así, un día de octubre del año 2003, sin ni siquiera haber podido escuchar una sesión del que iba a ser mi DJ residente, arrancamos con aquella aventura. Lo primero de lo que me pude dar cuenta era del cariño que despertaba esa persona. Decenas y decenas de personas habían venido solo porque él estaba allí, gente de Illueca, de donde es originario, de Calatayud, de Daroca, y todos le conocían y le tenían un aprecio, un cariño y una veneración que aún no podía entender. Debe ser un tío muy majo, pensaba yo. Y llegó el momento en el que se puso a pinchar. Yo no entendía demasiado bien aquella música, no la llevaba dentro, y por tanto me limitaba a ver, escuchar y trabajar. Eso si, su técnica, y de eso si que ya sabía bastante, el uso que hacía de la ecualización y sobre todas las cosas, la velocidad con que movía sus manos ya me permitieron ver que el tal Chiky era un DJ bastante bueno. Fueron pasando los días y aquello parecía que funcionaba, una media razonable de asistencia, la gente consumía con ganas y se notaba en la caja, la plantilla evolucionaba en su formación y se consolidaba como un equipo, y cada día venía más gente y de lugares distintos y más alejados. Poco a poco yo también comenzaba a entender más la música que se pinchaba. Por supuesto, había cosas que me gustaban más y otras no tanto, incluso algunas nada, pero era ponerse nuestro residente DJ Chiky a pinchar y empezaban a sonar unas melodías de trance duro (que eso si que me gustaba de siempre) que eran la gloria. El las aderezaba a su estilo, con una más de techno, con otra más de bumping, con otra más de hardhouse, con otra más de americano o newstyle. Y eso le imprimía aún más energía a esas melodías oscuras, a esos bombos marciales, a esos ritmos hipnóticos que tanto me estaban empezando a gustar. Más adelante llegaría el momento en que comenzaba a entender y disfrutar aquello en toda su plenitud, que lo entendía y lo compartía con el cada vez mayor número de clientes que nos honraban con su presencia. Recuerdo que al avanzar la noche, cuando ya tenía todo en la sesión bien controlado, y esta estaba llegando a su recta final, me iba al centro de la pista, me ponía unas gafas de sol, y cerrando los ojos, me dedicaba simplemente a disfrutar. A disfrutar enormemente bailando y escuchando aquella maravilla musical y acústica que allí se formaba. Recuerdo que el golpe era como si te diese en la cara en los temas con el grave más seco, para luego golpearte el estómago en los temas con el grave más profundo. Toda una experiencia. Luego, llegaba la hora en que consideraba que debíamos ya cerrar, eso era un negocio, y cuando la gente dejaba de consumir había que cerrar, y me iba a encender las luces e intentar que parase la música en la cabina y la marabunta en la pista. Oye, que aquello era imposible. Nos pegábamos cada día una media hora con todas las luces de la discoteca encendidas y venga temazo tras temazo tras temazo que era imposible parar. Los engranajes de aquella sala comenzaron a girar adecuadamente y vinieron las grandes fiestas, las sesiones interminables, los aniversarios, los tuning, nos inventamos la Semana Santa Criminal, celebramos el fin de año, la Noche de Reyes… Y llegaron las historias divertidas, el día del cerdo, el día de la piscina, el día de la procesión, el día del globo, el día de rojos como el tomate, el día de la nevada que no paraba de llegar gente tras horas de viaje, jajaja, momentos totalmente kafkianos. También me quedo con momentos en grandes discotecas nacionales en que la gente se acercaba a la cabina a ver QUÉ NARICES estaba haciendo ese tío con los platos… Conocimos muchos lugares, muchas grandes discotecas, y muchas grandes personas y enormes profesionales de esto que yo se por el paso de los años que nos tenían y mantienen un gran respeto. La gente cada vez acudía con más asiduidad, teníamos clientela que cada vez llegaba de más lejos, incluso a veces a mi mismo me sorprendía los viajes que se pegaban. Fue un bombazo sin duda. Y como ya he indicado anteriormente, en todo ese universo había una PIEDRA ANGULAR, Don Eduardo Gascón Pérez, DJ Chiky, la sal y la pimienta de todo aquello, el personaje que hacía que toda esa gente viajase cientos de kilómetros y luego se mantuviese durante horas y horas sin parar de bailar, saltar, silbar y chillar. Su línea musical es que no había línea musical, nos ha puesto desde Moby y Eminem hasta hardcore holandés. El secreto estaba en saber elegir en cada momento la canción que te iba a hacer enloquecer, y mezclarla por sorpresa, al subidón, con mil y un efectos y artimañas a los platos que te hacían que se te olvidase hasta “ir a mear”. Textualmente, os lo aseguro. La CULMINACIÓN de todo esto fueron las sesiones Chikymania, en que Eduardo Gascón Pérez, Dj Chiky, pinchaba durante toda la noche. En ellas podías saborear a lo largo de 8 o 10 horas seguidas (sin parar!!!!!!!) todo lo que llevaba aprendido este genio de la música hard. He visto muchas sesiones, muchos djs, muchas discotecas en muchos países distintos, y os puedo decir que puedo contar con los dedos de las manos a los djs capaces de mantener semejante progresión, nivel técnico y sobre todo entrega del público durante tantas horas seguidas. Para mi estas sesiones Chikymania son la muestra más auténtica y fiel de una época, de un tiempo en mi vida que siempre recordaré como de una intensidad brutal en todos los sentidos. Mi vida después de aquello ha continuado por otros caminos, pero esta época nunca la olvidaré. Por eso escuchar estas sesiones hace que se me pongan todos los pelos del cuerpo en punta, y que aunque estoy sentado en mi oficina suba y suba el volumen, no deje de sonreír y me entren unas ganas de ponerme a bailar que me cuesta controlar… Entiendo el desgaste de tantos años fiel a un estilo, la desorientación y desmotivación que ello puede suponer, y por tanto puedo comprender la decisión que DJ Chiky ha tomado de darse un tiempo de respiro para recapacitar y reorientarse en su trayectoria como DJ. Pero por favor, nunca pierdas de vista la esencia de aquello que te hizo tan grande, y mantennos bien surtidos de sesiones nuevas y antiguas que nos sigan permitiendo rememorar aquello que vivimos juntos. Philippe Petit is originally from Brussels, Belgium, where he started DJing in the early nineties. After spending 15 years in London, he moved to Chamonix, France, in 2010 where he started two vinyl labels: Knotweed Records and Decision Making Theory (DMT). He has a string of techno releases on his own labels, as well as on Pole Group, Figure SPC, EartoGround etc.

He has played at Tresor, Suicide Circus, La Graviere, Batofar, Weetamix, Corsica Studios, and Berghain to name a few.

David Meiser - Inner Fight

Dem Künstler, welchem wir die aktuelle Ausgabe zu verdanken haben, sind wir wirklich persönlich sehr verbunden. Man kann eigentlich sagen, dass er ein echter Freund geworden ist. 
Wir lernten ihn Anfang März auf unserer gemeinsamen Party mit den Jungs von Deviant Affections im Hamburger Turmzimmer des Übel und Gefährlich kennen, auf der er quasi sein erstes offizielles Live-Set spielte. 

Dass der Wahl-Berliner bereits davor kein unbeschriebenes Blatt war, versteht sich von selbst. Seine Tracks finden sich in zahlreichen DJ-Sets wieder (unter anderem in einigen unserer Podcast-Ausgaben) und erzielen eine beachtliche Klickrate auf youtube. So verwundert es auch nicht, dass er in immer mehr Clubs eine immer größere Fangemeinde live begeistert und Künstler wie Jonas Woehl oder Florian Rietze Remixe seiner Tracks anfertigen.
