Nicholas “Pumpkin” Alvarado is your new favorite music producer/DJ. His spot-on song selections, special remixes and original productions have made for unforgettable live sets that seamlessly span every genre and eschew the latest trends in favor of timeless melodies that will leave a ginormous smile plastered across your face.

Whether starting the party or closing it down, Pumpkin’s inspired mixes are always lovingly sequenced and aim to set the perfect mood. He’s played alongside fellow acclaimed house music mainstays like Lee Burridge, Justin Martin, Nick Warren and KCRW’s Jeremy Sole as well as progressive electronic music pioneers like Bluetech, Blockhead, EOTO and The Glitch Mob. Pumpkin has become an in-demand, fan-favorite at major music festivals like Coachella, Lightning in a Bottle and Sea of Dreams, where he closed the event after his musical hero, Trentemoller. Pumpkin’s acclaimed debut EP, “Love Letters,” featured collaborations with singer Katie Mowgli of the breakout band, The Mowglis and lyricist, EVeryman along with his sought after remixes from the likes of Florence + The Machine and Lila Rose.

He’s been part of the esteemed Pocket Underground family since 2006, when after playing in rock bands all his life, he found a new passion in the hypnotic rhythms of deep house music. Pumpkin honed his now signature sound by daring to incorporate the singer-songwriter, punk rock ethos and childhood nostalgia of his past, with the futuristic sounds of the present.

In everything he touches, Pumpkin’s colorful personality shines through and he loves nothing more than to have fun with his audience as his remixes for the likes Peter Gabriel, David Bowie and The Muppets will attest to. But whether you catch Pumpkin playing at a massive festival, packed club, underground warehouse party or a special sunrise set, you’ll never have more fun on a danceloor. Simply put, this is music to fall in love to.

When I was young, I discovered that I had fine-tuned ears, and that I was a fast learner. It all started when I played the flute in a band class in elementary school. I was never any good at reading music notes at that time, but I was able to play after I watched and heard my other classmates play their flutes. Later on, in my adolescent years, I picked up drumming on a kit, and I took drumming lessons for a few months; however, I still was unable to understand reading notes. When I was learning drumming, I recalled when I was younger in elementary school that I didn’t read notes then either, but I was still able to play. I applied what I learned and knew from previous years, I practiced a lot, and before you know it I had learned how to play a drum cover to Toxicity by System of a Down by ear. From that point on, I wanted to be in a band, and I had found some bandmates; however, the problem we struggled with was getting everyone together for band practice.

Year 2012 is where my story begins as an EDM artist. It was difficult starting out at first as a solo EDM artist with no guidance or social network, but after I turned 18 and started going out to EDM night clubs and meeting people things began to get easier. I had started producing music in Ableton in 2011 for a year before I found myself practicing the concepts of DJing using Traktor in 2012. I learned how to DJ from an artist, George Antonios, whom I met at an EDM nightclub in Atlanta, GA called Quad. George taught me the 5 concepts of DJing, and some music theory, that he learned from going to college for music. I spent most of my free time bouncing back and forth practicing DJing and music production for many years; also, to this day I am still learning new things with music. After many hours spent developing my craft with music, I started to be booked by promoters at EDM events in Atlanta, GA, and I did that for a few years; then, I started networking with more people, and began playing EDM events in other cities and states. My first festival booking was in 2014 in West Virginia called Eternus. Over the years, I began playing many EDM events ranging from bars, night clubs, and festivals; and the more shows I played the more people I met in the music industry. Eventually, I found myself DJing at EDM events with artists like Mantis, The Widdler, Manic Focus, Megalodon, Eliminate, Luca Lush, and many more. In 2020, I finally felt confident enough with my skills as a music producer to start distributing my music on Soundcloud; also, in 2020 I started an event productions business called Voltz Productions, and I started hosting my own EDM events for my local community.

I have devoted my life to music, and it has taken me on an incredible journey. I love what I do, I have been blessed with many opportunities, and I am grateful for every single one of them; additionally, I am grateful for every friend I have met along the way. Music is a journey; one has to devote their life to it like a committed relationship, but the journey of an artist is the most beautiful life one could ever live.
