Thunder and lightning
Moon and stars the
Mystery of a woman
holy where you are
in this time and space
against all chance
the heavens opened up
so we could dance

you listen to the birds
just like I do
music through your body
runs through and through
and I knew when we sang
your gift was  understood
and  blues gods blessed up
and said that it was good

Shelby has a snake
and it slides along her back
and the snake goes south
and it glides between the crack
and its head sticks out from 
under and between and
and it just keeps coming
and it’s long and lean

WITH A WIGGLE IN THE MIDDLE

LITTLE RIDDLE,
GONNA, GOTTA SIZZLE WITH A
SERPENT ON THE GRIDDLE

I WANT EVERYTHING THAT THE DEVIL BRINGS
A DISH AND THE SPOON AND A CARVING KNIFE
CUT ME THE APPLE FROM THE TREE OF LIFE

Shelby has a snake
And it looks in her eye 
And I look too 
and I don’t want to die
Want to live forever 
like the gods with glee
with her arms and her legs all
wrapped around me 

Shelby has a snake
and it slithers 
round her curves
as she glides on stage
and ignites my nerves, 
getting under my skin
so I have to shed,
get reborn, and never be dead.

crying out the blues
to the gods above,
