Sobolik is a Brooklyn-based producer, DJ, writer, and teacher. Sobolik's world is filled with colour and hyperkinetic energy. Not fitting in one box, their output reacts to a broad palette of styles across North American and UK dance music culture. Tell me about this mix?
This mix was culled from a recent practice recording, in preparation for my opening set at the next Antidote party on 12/17. Antidote is a collective started by Alyce aka Lychee, of likeminded friends and dance music practitioners: DJs Lychee, T.Wan, Sobolik, and Nutrition Facts, lighting designer Glimmer, and yoga instructor Yaya. We hold this party a few times a year in a private arts space, and it's very special to us as an opportunity to make something specifically for our favorite queer people to dance with. It's off the beaten club circuit path and aims to fully prioritize our collective values, musically, culturally, socially, and otherwise.

i'm looking forward to opening the party following Yaya's yoga session, for the chance to keep improving my slow burn mode and play more music with complex textural and emotional palettes. deep style 😶‍🌫️

What are you working on now that you are most excited about?
So much new music is in the works :) I'm looking at dropping at least three new EPs next year, possibly more, among other singles and one-off projects. I'm not gonna spill any deets yet, but stay tuned <3

  "Completely effortlessly, Ekkohaus becomes deeper and deeper with every release. The title track comes with a so unconventional Jazz trumpet that one really sink in. Everything in this is Jazz, up to the last fiber, however, nothing changes the fact that it is House until the last millimetre of the grooves. Four brilliantly nice House gems for a dance floor that would completely plunge into this sound, and besides that, still never lose the ground. Because the warmth of the tracks always brings in so much substance that one could fall asleep on it and, nevertheless, still dance."

  "Kostas Tassopuolos ist, der Name legt es Nahe, ein griechischer Musikproduzent, dessen Veröffentlichungen ich schon seit längerem eingehend beobachte. Nachdem er - wie könnte es auch anders sein - von Griechenland aus- und in die bundesdeutsche Hauptstadt Berlin gezogen ist, ging's bei ihm erst so richtig los mit der Produzententätigkeit. Unter dem Pseudonym Ekkohaus veröffentlicht(e) er bereits auf Kickboxer und Cargo Edition, doch - jedenfals nach meinem Dafürhalten - lenkte er die Aufmerksamkeit auf sich und sein musikalisches Potential so richtig erst mit "The Healer" (erschienen zu Beginn diesen Jahres auf Morris Audio, http://www.discogs.com/Ekkohaus-The-Healer/release/1762512).
  Nun hat er nachgelegt, und zwar auf dem in London beheimateten Label brut! Records (http://www.myspace.com/brutrecords), das unter anderem auch Efdemin, Marcel Dettmann oder den von mir sehr geschätzten Agnès als Produzenten/Remixer in seinen Reihen weiss.
  "Not Trying To" heisst die EP und gleichzeitig auch der erste Track auf der A-Seite. Jedesmal, wenn ich ihn höre, fühle ich mich unweigerlich in eine (us-amerikanische) (Gross-)Stadt versetzt. Ein einsamer Strassenmusikant, steht leicht gebeugt an einer grossen Strassenkreuzung. Um ihn herum herrscht geschäftiges Treiben, doch er scheint davon unberührt. Sein eingängiger Jazz setzt einen Kontrapunkt zu diesem pulsierenden Leben. "First Time" ist dagegen um ein vielfaches reduzierter. Aufschwingende Synthesizer-Akkorde werden für den rhythmischen Hintergrund eingesetzt, und eine weibliche Stimme flüstert die hallversehenen Worte "Ich will es nicht verstehen". Irgendwie verspult. Auf "One Too Many" arbeitet Ekkohaus stark mit den Elementen eines Jazz-Drumsets und flösst dem "Midnight Shuffle" mit dem Gitarren-Einsprengsel den Funk ein.
  Wer sich diese EP einmal angehört hat, kann leicht nachvollziehen, wenn clone records schreiben: "In the vein of Reboot, Lemos and Nick Curly, but with a bit more bite" (http://clone.nl/item15519.html). "Not Trying To" hat Biss. Definitiv!"

Plate number two from LIITHELI steps up the game with N1MA "Ajam EP"

The word "ajam" in Estonian stands for "drive", as in "electric drive". 

The title track - Ajam is a high-pressure techno jam with a buzzing atmosphere, that thrusts through a tunnel at the sound of speed.

Easing the pressure to bring softness on the flip side is Construction Business - an unregulated situational soundscape of random events.

"Tanel, where's the red box? - It's lost... - The grey fixing plugs were inthere." 

A very live recording of the process of building the Ravi Workshops in Tallinn, Estonia. Drum machines, (modular) synths, sequencers and laptops hooked up to a mixing desk in a 50m2 concrete room and a portable recorder placed in the same space. 

People bustling around with power tools in their hands, at times passing the sound setup and spontaneously twisting knobs and pushing faders.

No-one knows the score is being recorded.
