Next Summer (2021), 200 asset management firms will open their doors to more than 200 Black candidates. The #100BlackInterns project was originally launched to see if we could get one hundred firms to agree to offer a front office, money-management related internship to a Black candidate. This is specifically to address the abysmal fact that out of several thousand portfolio managers in the City of London, just fifteen are Black. That seemed like a big ask but, in the event, we were massively over-subscribed as more than 200 firms said "Yes!". Last Thursday Wol Kolade (Managing Partner at Livingbridge EP), Jonathan Sorrell (President at Capstone Investment Advisors), Michelle Scrimgeour (CEO at Legal and General Investment Management) and I, spoke to over 700 potential candidates on a webinar created by Adaobi Adibe and hosted by Victor Azubuike. We talked about the genesis of the 100BlackInterns program; getting ready for an internship; what to include in your CV and killer cover letter, the power of social capital; authenticity; values from the All Blacks; focus; courage to speak up; compassion; what we're looking for in applicants; why this time is different for Black candidates; concrete examples of great intern behaviours; how to lift as you climb; cricket, prison and fear of flying. The 100 Black Interns Webinar

This is where I am posting some of the best Christian sermons I have heard. Some I listened to live and uncut, others are recordings I have come across over the years. My theology, if pressed, is unashamedly reformed evangelical Calvinism with a heavy emphasis on a biblical gospel of grace.

In this day and age, "communication" is everything. It is quite something, then, to hear a preacher like Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones, who, in the 1950s and '60s simply relied on good old-fashioned pulpit preaching. No PowerPoint, no pictures, no comedy, few personal anecdotes, but always - as he put it - "theology on fire". Listen to this sermon preached two days after the assassination of JFK (Galatians 6:14) and, if it doesn't deeply move you, you need to listen to it again.
