Dawn of Apples - Discography

I made this song in about 9 hours during FORM's All Nighter 7 charity event! It was sort of a spur-of-the-moment decision for me to participate in it, but I'm really glad I did, since it finally pushed me to actually finish a song. The only changes I made since the weekend of the event were a couple of samples cutting out that I'd missed, a couple of reverb swells I added to fill space, and mixing/"mastering" changes. (mastering is in quotation marks because I don't really know what I'm doing)

For some reason I was really set on using the Dorian mode somewhere in the song, and so I wrote chords for the second drop first, and then with an underwater theme in mind, I tried to make everything else really brooding, yet really pretty at the same time, like fluorescent deep sea creatures. Also I have no clue how the intro chords came about, but I really liked them, so they got to stay.

Constructive criticism is very much welcomed and appreciated, just keep in mind, again, first song, 9 hours, y'know, all that. But thank you for listening! I hope you like it!

Dawn of Apples - ENTROPY

Fliptochrome!! The original Cryptochrome is by far my favorite song that came out in 2022. Around a month ago while walking to class, I was playing it in my head at house tempo, improvising some changes to fit a 4 on the floor pattern, and something about it really clicked with me. It started as just a quick little experiment to see what it would sound like, but I had so many ideas that it eventually grew into a full song!

I wasn't sure what to call this exactly; it's not really a remix, since the drops mostly use the original song, but I'd like to think it's more than just an edit, so I settled for flip.  I also feel like I learned a lot about mixing/mastering while working on this too, so I'm glad I saw it through to the end. Hope you enjoy!!

(feel like I should also add that neither the original nor this version has anything to do with a certain chain of blocks, it's just a word that sounds cool)

Au5 - Cryptochrome (Dawn of Apples Flip)

My first time hearing the original song was in my DAW at around midnight, with the stems freshly downloaded. I just kept looping it over and over again, soloing different combinations of instruments, and something about that listening experience really struck a chord with me. I hope I was able to transcribe that magic into this remix, and I hope you enjoy.

Dawn of Apples - "Mama, where do stars come from?"

I was going through old projects the other day, and found this among them. I knew it was something I started last year, but apparently I had literally finished it and just forgotten about it. There are things I didn't notice before that could use fixing with my new and improved mixing/arranging skills, but oh well. It's a product of its time (and by "it's time" I mean like 5 months ago)

This is one of my favorite Au5 songs from a songwriting perspective. There's a chord in here that I've been internally calling "The Atlantis Chord" when I use it in my own songs. (I believe technically it's some special voicing of a dominant 11, could be wrong though) It was a direct inspiration for my anv7 song, and I really wanted to create a version of it that emphasizes the deep, mystical mood it has. Wayfarer

I don't consider this a 'completed' song, as I feel this idea has much more to explore, however, this is a mark of what I was able to accomplish within the given 24 hours, hence the title. Comparing my ANV7 song to this one, though, I'm insanely proud of how far I've come, and I'm excited to see where I'll go from here.

I initially wanted to have this finished in time to celebrate the release of Chime's album Aetherborne, but I kind of let time get away from me. This song has always felt like it would fit right into the Aetherborne world, at least aesthetically, and it's one of my personal favorites of theirs, so I wanted to make a version that's a bit more relaxing; to really let you immerse yourself in the soda. Bottoms up!

The moment I heard the original song for the first time I knew I was a fan; it's just so endlessly inspiring, and the lyrics really resonated with me. This originally started out as a random test to see if I could do a minimalist drop using the original's off-kilter rhythm, but I had so many ideas for it that it turned into a full aquatic-themed remix. I'm extremely grateful to @alixcarolan for rendering out the stems for me to use as well. Hope you enjoy!!

Dawn of Apples - Caustic

I started this thing in December of last year, and it was basically almost finished, but for some reason I forgot about it until now. The mixing on it is pretty rough, but I figured it was close enough to being done that I might as well post it. If anything, though, I like to think it shows how far I've come since then.

I love Xtrullor's new stuff to death, but out of his older stuff, this one always stuck out to me. Something about the piano in this one always felt so grandiose in scale, even putting it on par with Supernova in my eyes, which is what drew me to start a remix of it. Hope you enjoy!!
