GREAT BEYOND 2022 - DAZZLE

Over the moon to share the latest entry in our SORRYMIX series -- a special live recording from a super special party mixed with love by our good friend Taal (@taal-nyc). We've been happily sharing dance floors with Taal (a.k.a. Adi) for yeeeeeeaaars !! I remember seeing him play for the first time during this open decks we did at our tiny release party for the debut EP from Ma Sha & Ru of Kindergarten Records back in 2019. He's a voracious music lover and a tireless contributor to the NYC dance underground through so many facets -- passionate DJing, tireless dancing, and fantastic party promotion running NYC's finest UKG night Bump! in addition to everyone's favorite pizza party 999-PIES. Hell he's also got a hand in lighting/installation - most recently putting together an installation for this year's Shaker Mountain weekender.

This recording is from a fantastic party Adi and his partner Leen threw on their roof in Bed Stuy. I believe they specifically picked the apartment because of said roof and this was their first proper party up there and certainly one for the books. You know what coincidentally  Adi and I have shared a lot of special moments on roofs over the last few years... I remember one of our first real conversations was on Taafe roof one morning at Sublimate.  Adi also threw another infamous roof party last summer just after re-opening where @t_o_n_y_g and I played our first post-pandemic set back and pretty much met half our friend group. for many people, this was the first party of the outdoor party season this year. the weather was a bit chilly but we got some nice sun during the afternoon. all the DJs (devoye b2b shikha, marco weibel, livwutang) played excellent daytime sets and the crowd brought great energy to match.

I closed the party just after sunset, and this recording captures most of my set, up until the cops came knocking (lol). definitely turned up the gas on this one. some UKG/bass, some techno, some jungle, lots of energy. enjoy 💫

Based in London, DJ Pitch is very much community driven. Whether that’s through being a promoter or A&Ring for the labels he co-runs, TT and All Centre. Community is at the centre of everything he does. Last year he released his brilliant debut album ‘It's Not What You Said It's Because You Spoke’ on TT - the ‘Scared’ EP is his first release since then.

London-based DJ and intuitive movement guide FYI Robyn showcases her healing approach to music through a mix that is introspective, giving yourself a moment to lose yourself within the deep rumbling bass, ecstatic beats, chants and natural textures. 

Over the last few years, Robyn has been exploring the connection with music and wellness more, with movement an integral part of her daily routine and practice. This has led to the launch of two projects, Bodily and In Zenith which are both held within community spaces and focus on bridging those two worlds of music and wellbeing together. Bodily is focused on intuitive movement, a practice which helps people connect through their inner and outer worlds. Robyn describes it as a ‘movement meditation practice that aids in releasing stress, anxiety, depression, and cultivates pure bliss, elation and a deep connection with ourselves and our surroundings’. This was incorporated into the debut In Zenith event last month - a new event series in collaboration with Holistic Coach and Yoga Teacher Sophie. Referred to as a day retreat, the event featured three key experiences across the daytime, with space to relax and connect in between activities. The activities included Kundalini, a Cacao Ritual + Sound Journey and an Intuitive Movement session led by Robyn. In between these, there were DJ sets from Alicia, Kincaid, Stone and Robyn. I was lucky enough to attend the event and it felt like something I had been longing for within the underground music world - a place to experiment, connect with yourself and others, whilst not having to feel like you need to be under the influence - it was a really beautiful day and looking forward to having more of those experiences. 

With all of that mind, alongside the mix we spoke to Robyn about Bodily and In Zenith, how she started bringing both worlds together and what she hopes people take away from these experiences.
