With their last anthem, Climb High featuring Danny Byrd still resonating in our heads and speakers, Viper Recordings very own Brookes Brothers waste no time bringing the goods once again with their latest single, Good To Me featuring Majesty.

Majesty, a 20-year-old singer-songwriter from East London, is fast becoming known as an act to watch for 2016. Majesty’s current single, Conversation feat. Scruffizer was playlisted on Channel AKA the same day as Good To Me was premiered on BBC 1Xtra.

Good To Me is all about bringing the funk and soul back in to the D&B party, a welcome reprise amongst the heavy set flavour of late. The focus is musical with a subtle liquid approach, mixed with their impeccable production skills; Good To Me rolls out with that perfect feel good vibe with the powerful yet gracious vocals of Majesty. Already boasting a first play from MistaJam on BBC 1Xtra and premiere from UKF, there can only be more goodness to come as the Brothers continue to show off their diversity and broad approach to global Drum & Bass.  

Drafted in for remixes duty is up-and-coming Viper Recordings exclusive artist, BMotion. Then one of Med School’s youngest ever signings with his compilation feature ‘No More’, drum & bass head turner Whiney has stepped up to the plate for his first solo release since officially joining the Hospital Records roster. Reputable for supplying heavy duty sonics, ‘Bubblers Part One’ is a supreme development of the 25-year old’s highly sought signature sound. Home to four fresh cuts marking the start of his trailblazing new three-part ‘Bubblers’ series, Whiney’s latest EP proves he’s got the technique and flair to be a lead player in the scene.

Jungle-infused gritty stepper ‘No Good’ gets things rolling with old-school soundscapes and a captivating R&B style vocal. A fierce ascending bassline accompanied by raw breaks and crisp percussion hits explode into play, setting the track up to be a future classic that continues to carry the foundations of drum & bass into the sounds of today.

Featuring the vocals of mic veteran MC GQ, ‘Guernsey Airport Bubbler’ is straight-talking and deadly. Written in the lounge of Guernsey Airport amidst his busy touring schedule pre-lockdown, this quirky heavy hitter comes close to being a textbook audible representation of a true bubbler.

Minimal sounding and darker in vibe, ‘Black Ice’ offers a copious amount of distorted swells, a throbbing sub line and snappy drums which keep the tune swinging throughout. Icey by name but extremely hot in nature - proceed with caution! ‘November’ rounds off the EP as it draws closer to Whiney’s trip-hop and future bass oriented inspirations. Whiney - Black Ice

Drum & Bass duo DC Breaks have made their way onto the widest range of playlists. Their hardcore club cuts have been rewound by the likes of DJ Friction and Andy C. On the other hand, the songwriting ability displayed on the single ‘Faithless’, featuring Bianca, has plastered them all over the radio. That’s just the tip of a very large iceberg. DC Breaks have earned their stripes in the underground but, with an album due in the Autumn and a packed festival season ahead, they’re about to explode onto the international stage in a spectacular fashion.

Since signing to Andy C’s Ram Records they’ve carved a reputation for delivering world class remixes for some of the biggest names in pop. Their work on singles by Paloma Faith, Lady Gaga, Lana del Rey, Tinie Tempah and others, and production for Example (a cut on the ‘Playing in the Shadows’ album) woke the pair up to the possibilities offered by vocalists. It was the start of the journey that led to the forthcoming album, packed with crossover cuts such as the piano-led ‘Breathe’ featuring Dave Gibson, with its contagious, urgent chorus. Or the soulful explosion of ‘No One Like You’ sung with passion by Niara Scarlett. Or the epic blast of ‘Salvation’ wherein DC Breaks take heavy duty bass sounds and tie them to uplifting, irresistible vocal hooks.

Once they graduated to Ram itself, with monster cuts such as ‘Shaman’ and last year’s battering ‘Lock-In’, they hit the drum & bass A-league. Before long it wasn’t just the drum & bass scene paying attention. DC Breaks tunes made it onto BBC Radio via Zane Lowe, Mistajam and Annie Mac.

“Chase and Status opened the door to drum & bass being accepted in the mainstream,” says Dan, “and through that door went DJ Fresh, Wilkinson, and now us.”

It certainly looks that way with appearances at multiple 2015 festivals, including UKF, NASS, SW4 and Glastonbury.

“I love the wildness of festivals,” says Dan, “Like we played on Arcadia’s outdoor stage last New Year’s Eve, in this big tower with fire blasting out of it. I was literally three or four feet directly underneath the flame-thrower in a really small box. If something goes wrong we were literally toast!”

If DC Breaks can avoid being fried by flame-throwers, the summer will be theirs. By the end of 2015, with their debut album blowing up everywhere, the year might well be too.
