Jimmy relaunched Beat Assassins in 2016 having had previous success between 2006 & 2010 with Joe Lenzie of Sigma. Since then Beat Assassins have had over 20 releases on various drum & bass labels such as Viper Recordings, Jungle Cakes, Dope Ammo, Gorilla Warefare, Wonky Goose and Jimmy's own label Mofo Recordings. It was only a matter of time before some demos from BA arrived in Toronto Is Broken's inbox for YANA Music.

"The System" is a straight up middle finger to authority, mirrored by the all-out aggression running throughout the track.

Viper have always been known as a label that has actively sought out new talent to bring to the spotlight; their strength comes from both a diverse roster, a constant stream of fresh talent, and some of the scene’s most respected veterans, all in one place. With names like Metrik, Fred V & Grafix, ShockOne, Delta Heavy, Sigma, Nero, DC Breaks, and more all starting their career on the prolific label, there’s no question label-boss Futurebound has a knack for discovering diamonds in the rough.

Following Viper’s newest mystery signee Giganti, Futurebound has just signed another talented newcomer to the label, this time going by the name of Millbrook. 
Millbrook is no stranger to releasing killer music; a look into his past will provide insight how he cut his teeth writing and releasing drum and bass under previous alias Vacuum. With an impressive amount of support and airtime from the likes of Bassnectar, Noisia, DJ Hype, Camo & Krooked and Glitch Mob already under his belt, Michel Losch, aka Millbrook, is now ready to elevate his sound to the next level in a new partnership with Viper.

Making a remarkable introduction for himself, ‘The Rise’ is the first taste of the Luxembourg based producer’s rebrand. Written with the talented Vorso and featuring industry favourite Mad Hed City on vocals, ‘The Rise’ is a raw, gritty, pounding masterpiece with a drop that is guaranteed to leave jaws on the floor. A charming intro melody quickly evolves into something much more sinister, emotion, followed by pure adrenaline, pumping from Mad Hed City’s iconic voice before breaking down into something minimal, funky, and all around technically brilliant. 
The flip side of the single gives us a glimpse at Millbrook’s much more elegant side – a cinematic opening teases at his sound design ability while introducing a variety of power-packed chords for an instantly memorable tune. Delivering a different kind of funk with the drop, Millbrook has certainly proven he is a force to be reckoned with with this release.

A celebration of the label’s diversity, Millbrook’s introductory release promises a lot more to look forward to. Keep your eyes peeled for more from Millbrook this year, alongside Viper’s growing roster of new and formidable talent.

A.M.C - Gotham (Drumsound & Bassline Smith Remix)

Drum & Bass duo DC Breaks have made their way onto the widest range of playlists. Their hardcore club cuts have been rewound by the likes of DJ Friction and Andy C. On the other hand, the songwriting ability displayed on the single ‘Faithless’, featuring Bianca, has plastered them all over the radio. That’s just the tip of a very large iceberg. DC Breaks have earned their stripes in the underground but, with an album due in the Autumn and a packed festival season ahead, they’re about to explode onto the international stage in a spectacular fashion.

Since signing to Andy C’s Ram Records they’ve carved a reputation for delivering world class remixes for some of the biggest names in pop. Their work on singles by Paloma Faith, Lady Gaga, Lana del Rey, Tinie Tempah and others, and production for Example (a cut on the ‘Playing in the Shadows’ album) woke the pair up to the possibilities offered by vocalists. It was the start of the journey that led to the forthcoming album, packed with crossover cuts such as the piano-led ‘Breathe’ featuring Dave Gibson, with its contagious, urgent chorus. Or the soulful explosion of ‘No One Like You’ sung with passion by Niara Scarlett. Or the epic blast of ‘Salvation’ wherein DC Breaks take heavy duty bass sounds and tie them to uplifting, irresistible vocal hooks.

Once they graduated to Ram itself, with monster cuts such as ‘Shaman’ and last year’s battering ‘Lock-In’, they hit the drum & bass A-league. Before long it wasn’t just the drum & bass scene paying attention. DC Breaks tunes made it onto BBC Radio via Zane Lowe, Mistajam and Annie Mac.

“Chase and Status opened the door to drum & bass being accepted in the mainstream,” says Dan, “and through that door went DJ Fresh, Wilkinson, and now us.”

It certainly looks that way with appearances at multiple 2015 festivals, including UKF, NASS, SW4 and Glastonbury.

“I love the wildness of festivals,” says Dan, “Like we played on Arcadia’s outdoor stage last New Year’s Eve, in this big tower with fire blasting out of it. I was literally three or four feet directly underneath the flame-thrower in a really small box. If something goes wrong we were literally toast!”

If DC Breaks can avoid being fried by flame-throwers, the summer will be theirs. By the end of 2015, with their debut album blowing up everywhere, the year might well be too.
