It's A Shame

Before Starship made it one of the most infamous songs of pop music, Martin Page took Bernie Taupin's lyrics and composed the basic musical structure of "We Built This City." He created the recording in his home with synthesizers and his own vocals. It was proposed to Starship as a potential hit for their upcoming album, but not before additional tweaking by Dennis Lambert and Peter Wolf. 

This original track carries a New Wave feel to it similar to Thomas Dolby or other synthesizer artists of the time. Taupin's lyrics are still somewhat awkward, but blend well with Page's experimental sounds.

Found on an episode of "Crap of the Past," I needed to edit out the DJ voice that cuts into the beginning and end of the song. I found creating the coda that fades rather challenging, and I'm sure its amateurish nature is obvious to the well-tuned ear.
