Carl Jean-Louis, better known as Dextah, is a Chicago native currently residing in Northern California’s Bay Area. His releases throughout the years have displayed his love for hard drums and contemporary Hip Hop. Originally released by the seminal New York label and Blog Grandgood (Dj Signify, Grandmaster Caz, etc) “Relentless Disillusion” is Dextah’s first official full length and is evocative of a David Lynch soundtrack. 

Straight out of the artist's archives, “Relentless Disillusion Redux” includes limited copies of the original vinyl pressing, DVD, plus a download code (200pcs worldwide). As an added feature the never before released digital format includes 2 haunting bonus tracks, "All I Have Is Salvation" and "Lovers Spat" .

The project was mastered by Canadian beat-smith Sixtoo (Ninjatune). The vinyl version features a Bonus DVD by System D128 who is best known for his work with The Wu Tang Clan, Bigg Jus, Diplo, Blockhead, Madvillain and Daft Punk.

This project of early-works was originally circulated as a cassette, limited to 20 copies.
Recently, it was restored using modern audio restoration and preservation techniques.
This process involved digitizing material from 4-track, 3.5” floppy disc and one of the surviving tapes.

The title “Mood Algorithms” reflects the compositional process in which beats were created with inspiration from daily moods. The cover art, created by British designer Oliver Cartwright (<a href="http://www.olivercartwright.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.olivercartwright.com</a>), illustrates the sequence of these moods which are represented by the array of vivid colors.

At the beginning, the "beat diaries" project was exclusively a video series. The element of traveling and visiting foreign places translated into the videos. When it was time to transfer the series to a different medium, vinyl, I had to think of a way to include this aspect of traveling. So I asked all the beatmakers and musicians I've visited in these past years to record a shoutout. Some did, some did not. Every shoutout was pasted on an exclusive beat and is now featured on the record. Thanks again to everybody who recorded such a shoutout:

"I’ve filmed the very first episode of the beat diaries on a balcony on the Portuguese island Madeira in May 2014. Presenting my beats live was of no particular concern to me until that point, but I was looking for a way to release music spontaneously. I needed something external that would keep me making those beats and videos, so I decided that whenever I would travel somewhere, I would film an episode. The beats needed to be done in a short time window and should at least aim to reproduce my mood, my experiences relating to that moment, thus functioning as a diary. All episodes ought to be recorded and filmed live and in one take.
Making a song on demand, presenting it in a more or less live way, finding a place to film it, carrying a lot of equipment, and working around weather conditions and curious bystanders have been among the challenges that have been presented to me, not to speak of impatient co-travellers. Up until now (January 2018), I’ve recorded more than 50 episodes and I’m thrilled that I was asked to collect some of them for this album. So I did. I’ve re-recorded a selection of episodes, re-producing them again from scratch, included some episodes that never came into existence and complemented them with shouterludes featuring some of the people I was meeting on my travels.
It took me over a year to produce this record and it was a journey making it. Featured are beats that have been originally composed in the last four years and shout outs from fellow beatmakers I had the privilege of meeting during this time. I had so much fun making those videos, crafting those beats, so I sincerely hope you’re enjoying this record.
