The speculation as to who is behind the project began after He/aT emerged last June with the "A Death In The Family EP", and was fuelled further on the release of the second "A Terrible Misunderstanding EP" in December. With this, the 3rd EP in the series, the waters remain muddy in that respect, but more importantly He/aT steps things up and drops the powerful "Don't Grow Up, It's A Trap EP".

The title track is perhaps the boldest dance floor track from the project so far.

"I Was Young, I Needed The Money" follows, twisting He/aT's now trademark experimentalism with 4x4 techno.

"These Are My Principles And If You Dont Like Them I have Others" is the brutal but intricate finale, and certainly up there with his most accomplished work to date.

He/aT makes his debut live show at Berghain on May 10th.........

DEAD CERT. Records is a label devoted to techno in various forms. Having made its first release in July 2013 it’s been an incredible start for the new imprint, with releases featuring Audio Injection (Truncate) and Hans Bouffmyhre amongst an impressive roster of artists. It’s clear to see why the label has been seen in set lists and charts from people including Cari Lekebusch, Dave Clarke and Rebekah. 

Set up by duo William Welt and Jack! Who?, the label is linked to the now infamous Death Techno mix series, that has guests including Joachim Spieth, Mike Wall and Miss Sunshine amongst many others. 

William and Iain met through the North East of England’s club scene where they regularly found themselves DJ'ing at the same parties. William who plays both House and Techno already ran 22 Digit Records which focuses on house and deep techno. Iain mentioned he was looking to launch a label linked to his mix show, William saw this as the perfect opportunity to explore his darker side and DEAD CERT. was born. 

After over a year of releasing music in a digital format it seemed the logical step for the label to start pressing vinyl, this being the first in a series of four track, vinyl only releases. This new branch of the label to be entitled “DEADCERTBLACK” will be pressing limited runs of 300 units. 

The first release sees William Welt and Jack! Who? step out from the shadows and take the spot light with three of their own productions. Two of which are collaborations and the third is a solo production from William Welt that gets the remix treatment from DJ Spider. 

The first track on the EP titled “Stalker” is the sole production from William and as the title suggests it’s a twisted monster hungry for prey. Thick hi-hats and a heavy clap rhythm hold the groove whilst pulsating filters breathe life into the menacing bass line. The track’s vibe is broken only for a split second when warm pads cut through the mix like a short lived break in the clouds on an otherwise dark and stormy day. 

Based in New York (USA) Rob Hampton aka DJ Spider is known for his love of vinyl and all things analogue. Having releases on trend setting labels like Killekill he also heads up Plan B Recordings along with Sublevel Sounds and Beneath The Underground Music. Keeping the original tracks dark vibe DJ Spider puts his own twisted spin on Stalker and stripped back the sound to create space for his own robotic ambience. Filled with machine like percussion and cracks of reverb he uses sparse FX to create a soundscape with just enough bite to keep the dancefloor moving. 

“Creeper” is the first of the two collaborations and Jack! Who?’s presence is instantly felt. With a groove that’s firmly focused at the dancefloor the track is both tense and spacious. Metallic hi-hats combine with murky percussion that flutters like the beating wings of an oversized insect. Although percussion led, the track is layered with growling bass swells and monstrous FX which keeps it both captivating and intense. 

The second of the two collaborations entitled “Lurker” is the fourth and final track on the release. Clean and full, the track is the deepest on the EP and provides perfect contrast to complete the package. Focusing on metallic pad sounds, it has a strong dub influence and a flowing groove. Very much a game of two halves it’s the perfect tool to make the transition between warm up and peak time, as Introduced in the main break is a lead pad that takes it up a gear.

One of the most promising newcomers around and known from releases on Bedrock and Aeon, italian born Francys presents his first EP for OFF. 

Now based in Berlin, and already hauling an impressive back catalogue, Francys delivers five tracks filled with dancefloor goodness. 

Opening up with “Elsewhere”, a catchy melodic deep techno cut, the track creates a tense yet sustainable build up by the way of ambient-ridden synths. 

Title track “Komorebi” exerts a similar feeling, craftly layering grave synths peppered with high pitched acid-like bits. 

Fellow Berliner and BLKRTZ label boss Deadbeat is the muscle behind the remix, bringing his well known penchant for timeless techno to the game. The reputed sound designer manages to inject more groove, turning “Komorebi” into a peak time contender. 

“Pandora's Scream” rounds up the release, exposing a metallic ridden bassline, interspersed with eerie high pitched sounds. 

Last up is “The Monk”, a dark and somber sonic exploration infused with mysterious, chant-resembling vocal pieces that give the track a ghoulish atmosphere.

DEAD CERT. Records is a UK Techno label with previous releases featuring music from artists including Audio Injection / Truncate, Joachim Spieth, Hans Bouffmyhre, DJ Spider and Eomac to name but a few. 

The first artist EP of 2016 sees Lithuanian talent Jonas Kazlauskas, who produces under the alias of Calli, make his debut release on DEAD CERT. Records. With impressive production skills, he has put out fresh cuts on other labels that include Partyzanai, State of Techno and Shaded Music, whilst he has also been remixed by a number of other artists such as the superb Svreca who heads up the giant Semantica Records. 

The single remix on this release comes from Spanish artist Jose Pouj who is the label boss of Injected Poison Records, which along with his own music has featured a high pedigree of artists such as Radial, Reeko, Tadeo, NX1, Kwartz, Jonas Kopp and Christian Wünsch amongst many others. 

The first track "Delusion" starts Psychosis off with a bang. A moody and hypnotic beast that gets lit up with some strung out acid that chimes over a huge swelling beat. Powerful and engrossing, it has bursts of energy combined with a sense on menace. 

Jose Pouj remixes Delusion and romanticises the main elements, but after the intro passes, a whole new angle is revealed by a bouncing bass line and haunting atmospherics. Groovy and warm, he creates a sense of urgency and inside lurks a dark and mysterious sense of tension. 

"Hallucination" is the third offering that opens with a thundering kick and tripped out sub bass swells. A skittering beat this time, that is instantly infectious whilst it holds a tight groove and lets the lead sound evolve, sweeping the mix like a brooding hurricane. 

The fourth and last track on the release titled "Insanity" has an acid offensive that’s layered over a monstrous beat. Then like a interplanetary assault from an alien race, the fierce mechanical stabs attack and combine with other worldly sounds to create a futuristic harmonic tapestry.

Canadian label Eternal Drive ventures into their first vinyl project after a string of releases featuring artists like Subjected, Black Asteroid, Brendon Moeller and Luis Flores for example.

On remix duty are two Los Angeles, USA based artists, one being the mighty Audio Injection known for his works on Cocoon, CLR, Mote-Evolver, Figure and many more. The second being Axkan, takes it down a more abstract path following releases Reloading Records and Chicago’s From 0-1.

Label boss Jay Zoney‘s original and title track “Workhorse” for this DT:Premiere is a driving and powerful masterpiece that has been picking up feedback from the likes of Marcelus, Shlomi Aber, Gary Beck, Björn Torwellen to Electric Indigo.

Sweden is the home of @RandomIsland that has a tight knit core of artists. Having featured established artist Nihad Tule, the latest and first album comes from label boss Thomas Andersen aka @Inter_Gritty.

Available as vinyl and digital through Bandcamp shortly after, Islands is a wonderful LP said to be “covering an archipelago of sound that offers both rough seas, jagged cliffs and serene forests…” which sums up the track diversity perfectly.

We chose track three “Swona” for this DT:Premiere for its tool like, flat out groove. Grabbing your attention with shear class, its confident roll gains in extravagance and intensity. This is an absolute gem that can slip in any set, instantly ready for any dancefloor.

Although the existence of fabric hangs in the balance, the Farringdon club’s legacy will always live on through its celebrated mix series. Not many have been running—let alone remained as relevant—as long as this one, and there can be few better to carry on the baton than Scuba: he was the last artist to play at the club on August 6th 2016, and will donate all proceeds from the mix to the #savefabric fundraising campaign that plans to fight the closure.
 
London born Paul Rose’s career has been intrinsically linked to Hotflush Recordings, the label he set up in 2003. Its first release was also his first, under the Spectr alias with a debut as Scuba coming in 2005. In the subsequent years, Hotflush has played a pivotal role in the evolution of underground dance music, as has Rose himself, not only as an A&R and producer (of no fewer than four LPs and tens of EPs), but also with five years of Sub:stance at Berghain. Those parties famously introduced a bass-heavy outlook to a seminal techno club, and established a singular voice as other less cerebral interpretations of that sound took hold around the world. Coming back full circle to his formative mid-90s days of following Colin Faver and Jeff Mills, Rose’s fabric appearances evolved from bass music Fridays to the house and techno of Saturday nights.
 
“fabric has been a really important venue for me as a clubber and also as a DJ. The mix was put together over the course of a couple of weeks in my studio in London. At this point, I don't think the method is really important to how a DJ mix is constructed: if it sounds good then that's all that matters. There's a variety of old stuff, recent releases and brand new music, and also a mix of established producers all the way through to people that no-one will have heard of because they've never released anything.” - Scuba.
 
Those debut-making artists—Isaac Reuben, Glaskin, Blursome and DXC—will feature on both a VA sampler on Hotflush (October 14th) as well a one-off vinyl 10” including a brand new Scuba track (November 18th), and they knit in perfectly here with music from across a wide spectrum. Taking a no-nonsense approach, this is a visceral and scuffed-up, rugged and to-the-point selection. What’s more, Rose’s ability here to select, sequence and stitch together a whopping 42 tracks over 75 minutes is remarkable. Artists as diverse as Pearson Sound and Patrick Cowley, Donato Dozzy and Midland all get called upon, but nothing ever gets in the way of a dark, seductive atmosphere. It means that in amongst the bumping lo-fi techno and cavernous bass sounds, there is a palpable sense of being lost in the rave. Fog billows out, distant sirens go off and strobes flash. The pressure never releases. fabric 90, then, leaves you delightfully disorientated in the heart of Room 1, and you’ll never want to leave.
