I had the fantastic opportunity last month to record at Exeter Phoenix in the amazing Sound Gallery Studios for Devonstream sessions! It was great fun with meeting John and Duncan and I got to record three acoustic versions of my songs, My Descent, Carousel and Seagulls and two poems I wrote, Ode to Theatre Royal Plymouth and B +Bee! This project is funded by Youth Music’s incubator fund.

thought too much about the hustle but my brain was not the muscle

I should have been lifting bars and getting my beat up on the struggle

made poor choices ever higher I flew

but I was crashing down to earth because my senses were screwed

then I sat in cold judgment as I was passing through nothing

a prisoner of the shadows I was constructing

convinced that I was moral as I cast my nets

stoking flames of hatred with … arguments

I may have been right, who cares?

its not what you say

and there’s nothing more seductive than a reason to quit

all just gets so twisted when you think you’re out of it

and the problems we make are the ones we refuse to fix

if we hadn’t wasted life upon what could we have lit?

still chasing old illusions when we know what it is

when we refuse to fess up to ourselves the problem’s clear

as a heartbeat stopped by diamond gear

so master your self or be a slave to what appears

soon we’ll all be dead - don’t you want to cut it here?

are you high and dry cause you hide from your drive

did you never want to give yourself a reason for life?

well I’m taking mine and I’m still doing my time

but I’m loving it now and I’m forcing it to rhyme

I desire to inspire you to forge your mind

fashion your reason until you die

for dark is the night of the soul you will find

if death approaches where your candle never shined
