Honey Lungs is a song about empathy and kindness. It’s been a really hard year for everyone. From COVID quarantine, to the death of George Floyd which re-ignited the BLM movement, followed by the consequent mainstream rise of white supremacy and the storming of the US capitol...A lot of hard conversations have been taking place throughout it all. When people are emotionally invested in something it can be easy to default to defensiveness or vitriol especially when these conversations are taking place online. This song is about approaching all interactions with kindness, grace, humility and empathy. Trying to understand other people, their intentions, and how we can find common ground are important first steps to repairing what feels like an extremely divided planet.

The wailing rally cries of Rage Against the Machine and the urban blues punk of the Kills were two major components of Dead Sara's first single "Weatherman," but the song also filled a gap left after the decline of grunge, as a straightforward, guitar-driven rock & roll anthem in the spirit of L7 and Hole. Led by the raspy, dynamic vocals of Emily Armstrong and guitarist Siouxsie Medley, the L.A. duo was rounded out by bassist Chris Null and drummer Sean Friday, and their first EP, The Airport Sessions was released in 2008 on Viscount Productions. As the group started earning a fan base through touring, Dead Sara's acclaim reached the ears of Courtney Love, who invited Armstrong to sing on an upcoming Hole album. Also, after seeing them live, Jefferson Airplane's Grace Slick talked the band up in several music publications, feeding the hype for a self-titled full-length, released on Dead Sara's own Pocket Kid Records label in spring of 2012. ~ Jason Lymangrover
