spying clouds twist into shapes
turning laundry into capes
basement shelf with books and games
baseball cards and halls of fame
a lone balloon floats into the sky
and where it travels the winds decide

how we spent those summer days
selling cups of lemonade
every Sunday come to play

spreading up and out of our sight

Sleeping over on my floor
wide awake and laughing more
slowly drifting into sleep
wrapped in hopes we’re going to keep
an errant wish floats into the sky
rising up and is cast aside
