Helen Henderson hails from Southland, New Zealand. Helen started her musical career in London, and is now based in Los Angeles. Her first CD "The Sonora Sessions " was recorded in Los Angeles, and had excellent reviews. I have played blues guitar with many of the blues men and women of Alabama. Co-founded the Alabama Blues Project and backed the Great Johnny Shines for many years until his death. I shared the stage with him on the last gig he did before he died. I will add to this later. Thanks for checking it out.

All of these recordings were made at a blues club in Montgomery Alabama called Cat Daddys. One night we had horns and on night we had a keyboard player. I will add more details later. (Note: the song "Tell Mama" was recorded at a club called The Nick in Birmingham Alabama. All the rest were at Cat Daddys)

 My "name" deafsinger ~ Yes I am legally deaf & I sing , play the guitar , write music & lyrics, play around on keys & some percussion. I'm writing this to let others know what hearing loss & loving music & having the true basic need to still have my music incorporated into my life. It's about doing the impossible . It's about overcoming adversity  , so please do not mistake my description of what  it feels like with my type of hearing loss & deafness as a pity party . I am so thankful to have part of 1 ear back !  Just want for others to have an insight into what being deaf sort of feels like.   I have total sudden nerve deafness in 1 ear, partial hearing in the good ear. I don't hear in stereo & do not have  sensation or direction  of sound. I was told I would never be able to sing again after my profound  loss of hearing & residual  tinnitus that  rings 24 hours a day , 7 days a week. It rings so loudly I hear it buzzing & ringing over a jet taking off. It was over 6 months before I would even take my 12 string guitar out of the case to  see if I could hear it well enough to sing & play . I could not even hear it at all . I could put my good ear on it  & feel the vibrations of the strings. It was approx 1 year before I could  barely even hear it. What I heard was no longer in stereo that danced & delighted with bright  high end & full low end notes. What I heard sounded like a broken transistor radio on AM with a broken speaker that rattled , &  my ear sensation felt  like it was full of water after swimming , full of air after flying , a full sensation that roared all the time. A feeling that even at now at times  makes me wish that I could tilt my head to the side , jump on 1 leg so  the water would fall out.
 Playing music & writing songs is what literally got me through my preteen & teen & college years , playing & singing daily . My guitar & my music had been so easy , they had been my best friend.  I thought I was not any good  because it was so easy . After losing my hearing , & thinking my music was gone forever , I had to learn to talk in conversational  volume & tone again  & also had to learn to sing again . My range is much more limited now , but I am doing what I was told was impossible.  If I am not  pitch perfect , or kind of off ... well I am deaf  after all , LOL !  I control a lot of my vocals by feeling the vibrations in the back of my throat & also in my deaf ear that feels stuffed & full of water to know if I am going to the correct key.  
If you see me  out & about  or at a party , do not speak badly about me just because I won't hear you  because I DO read Lips beautifully ! 


Currently performing under the name Z0ph0kl3z for the upcoming album Info Wars due out later this year. The single Trolled By @th3j35t3r, for that upcoming album was released April 10, 2013. It is a dance track that features a verified phone call from the Jester. It's also features the voices of Robin (rjack) Jackson and Amy Lynn.
