EVERGREEN are London based comprising vocalist Sofia Tobin and guitarist Alex Dengate. The two first met during one of Sofia’s recording sessions, where Alex was brought in as a session musician. A natural musical chemistry quickly emerged, laying the foundation for a deeper, more collaborative project.
 
Tobin was born in Dublin and raised in the foothills of County Wicklow. Her songwriting is grounded in the traditions of Irish folk balladry, yet it also leans into something more expansive and quietly cinematic. She’s drawn to the conventions of Irish storytelling, particularly its use of song as a way of navigating grief, uncertainty and connection.
 
Alex grew up in Chesterfield, where his dad’s record collection shaped his early musical life – from the Ramones to AC/DC. He is now based in London having graduated from the University of Liverpool with a music degree. Though shaped by louder and heavier influences, his playing reveals an understated musicality.
 
Though they both arrived at music through very different paths, what became clear early on was the way their sensibilities could co-exist. Where Sofia leans into atmosphere and lyricism, Alex brings structure and melody. Their music references the labrynthine harmonies of Jeff Buckley and the purposeful drive of Led Zeppelin.
