To finish off our collab with mini series Drumroll please, we present to you a mix from elena xo!

elena xo is a Brooklyn-based DJ, event organizer, and artist. Her background in classical violin has laid the foundation for an exploration of ferocious, sublime, and percussive sounds in her DJ sets, favoring genres like hard drum, club, UKG, Bérite club, techno, electro, and footwork. Alongside @battymecks, elena xo is the co-founder and co-organizer of the eclectic party @drumrollplease. She has performed at Elsewhere, Jupiter Disco, Mood Ring, Felt Zine, New People’s Cinema Club, and more.

The first half of this mix was recorded at the Drumroll Please Halloween show at Casa Maya on October 28th, and the second half is a recreation of the set that didn’t originally get recorded.

“We’d been throwing parties at Casa Maya every month for close to a year and I always felt like I could never play a good set there, especially during the 3-4am graveyard shift. This Halloween show ended up being our best yet with lines out the door most of the night and great energy sustained throughout; I was finally able to play my redemption set there, which is a great feeling. Having to go back and re-record the second half was challenging and made me reflect on how you can never play the same set twice or truly recreate something so in the moment and in response to the energy and people in the room at that time. So many different elements converged in a particular way, and that can’t be repeated. Regardless, being able to do this mix series with Somersault to commemorate that night is really meaningful. Para muito além da House Music, gênero pelo qual Brune ficou mais conhecida nas pistas, com passagens pela Mamba Negra, Gop Tun, Tantsa e Caos, a DJ também alimenta um vasto repertório de downtempo, navegando sem fronteiras pela World Music: soul, hip hop, MPB, jazz, indie dance, kwaito, ritmos latinos, música experimental. ALF FM é o espaço criado por Brune para apresentar esse outro lado de sua pesquisa.

Romulo Lopes, aka. Tempra Palace, é um DJ e produtor musical de São Paulo, sua pesquisa gira em torno das vertentes da House Music. Como produtor fez lançamentos pelos selos GGFM, CostaLuz e  Coyribe, junto do projeto global Converse All Stars colaborou com Channel Tres.

Iniciamos o primeiro episódio da Frequência Fantasma com o Santo Antoni, um dos criadores da Zona Fantasma e do próprio programa aqui. O Santo Antoni é um ser de dimensões distantes que se materializa em nosso plano durante suas apresentações. Esse ser utiliza o corpo, as memórias e as músicas catalogadas de um humano paulistano com o intuito de tentar recriar os sons da sua dimensão de origem.
Esse som emanado pelo Santo Antoni durante suas materializações reflete os mistérios e os charmes da sua incomum presença com elementos marcantes e muita dança.
Tudo nele é um mistério. Seria ele só um humano descolado da realidade ou um horror cósmico disfarçado? A máscara que ele usa é um adereço comum de papel ou um poderoso artefato lendário? Dizem que ao se apresentar ele bebe da energia emanada por aqueles que dançam com seu som mas ninguém tem muita certeza disso.
Iniciar um projeto assim é um salto no vazio cheio de incertezas e nada mais justo para um primeiro capítulo que um ser de dimensões desconhecidas. Apreciem essa caminhada sonora pela curiosa identidade do Santo Antoni e da própria Frequência Fantasma.

2 hours of music curated and mixed by BTM founder B_X_R_N_X_R_D, featuring tracks and words by artists performing at LIBER8 US, a first of its kind multi-city musical event in celebration of Juneteenth. It will take place on Sunday June 18th in D.C., Detroit, New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Richmond, VA and Pittsburgh.
