Martin Noise is a DJ / Producer from Buenos Aires, based in Barcelona, dedicated to the research and the experimentation of new sounds oriented to the dancefloor. From downtempo songs to listen at home, through music inspired by the new wave, the creative force of the jungle, the power of organic elements and psychedelic experimentation to the most convincing music for the club.

He is one of the founders of Playground Records and its current director.

After playing and producing different bands of rock, punk and post punk in his native city, he launched his career as a DJ and after some years playing he moved to Barcelona.

Nowadays, he is focused on his own productions, releasing music not only on Playground Records but also on Calypso, Hard Fist, Ombra International, Duro, Logical Records, Night Noise, Nein, Controlla and Lassi International.

On May 25th 2024, to accompany the launch of his Arthur Russell book "Travels Over Feeling" Richard King put together an event at London's Barbican celebrating Arthur's life with an all star musical cast recreating and reimagining his music.

I was thrilled to be invited to play a DJ set in the foyer afterwards. I have been an Arthur Russell devotee for 30 years and decided to play an all Arthur Russell DJ set*. The atmosphere was very special with lots of love transmitting back and forth from the DJ booth to the dancefloor. I really felt a freedom to slowly build it up playing so many of my favourite AR tracks and it was one of my very favourite DJ gis of 2024 so far.


*Full disclosure - there was an additional 30 minutes finale of this set that didn't record where I played non Arthur Russell, disco / disco adjacent records.

"I always like starting with something out of context..."  

He of WH Lung greatness and now a solo live artist & DJ delivers a belter of a mix.

Having grown up in Manchester's DIY band scene, Tom Sharkett came late to these things called dancing clubs and all that came with it, discovering electronic music through synthesizers while recording with his most excellent band W. H. Lung. His journey from guitar music to the dancefloor mirrors his present-day musical output; a collision of post-punk abrasiveness and the electronic that feels equally at home in sweaty basements and proper nightclubs.

Now based back in Todmorden, Tom has carved out his own niche releasing on Optimo Music and System Olympia's Okay Nature label... and it's a bloody brilliant niche!  His production approach remains coloured by those early days of bedroom experimentation with friends, citing the peerless Andrew Weatherall's fearlessly exploratory spirit as a key inspiration. It's interesting how he keeps coming around and around again, doesn't it? "His approach reminds me of the excited feeling I had trying to record things in my bedroom with my friends with anything we had at our disposal and just experimenting with the weird and wonderful results,"

When it comes to disc jockeying, Tom brings that same experimental energy. This mix was recorded in his panoramic valley-view studio in Todmorden, captures that ethos perfectly, opening with Spacemen 3 before wandering through territory that spans from Tirzah-esque experimentalism to classic New Beat.

Between touring with Julie Byrne, collaborating with Raf Rundell - more on that to come soon pop pickers - and working on a new solo record featuring multiple vocalists, Tom's not a 'sit still' kind of guy.

A bit about Martin:

Martin Noise is a DJ / Producer from Buenos Aires, based in Barcelona, dedicated to the research and the experimentation of new sounds oriented to the dance floor.

He is owner of Playground Records with Kunde and Moses.

He studied music production at Music School of Buenos Aires (EMBA).

Martin began his career as a producer of rock bands in partnership with drummer Federico Amante in their own recording, mixing and mastering studio: the FM Studio. There they conducted several productions, among them it stands out the EP of the rock band called Nebus in which Noise participated as artistic producer. In 2012 they decided to separate their creative society to undertake their own artistic paths, leaving as last work together the first EP of the Pop-Punk band Blackinside. Later that year, Noise, decided to open his own production, mixing and mastering studio: the Electric Noise Studio, located in the City of Buenos Aires.

At the same time, he launches his career as a DJ, in short term he achieved to perform at prestigious clubs of Argentina as Niceto Club, Shamrock basement, Palermo Golf Club, Blow and Mute Mar del Plata and he played in the best parties of the underground scene like Undertones, The Garden, WASP, Bordeline, Housekeepers just to name a few.

Then, he definitively joined Blackinside as a programmer battery and electronic sounds until the beginning of 2015 when they decided to separate.

After that he moves to Barcelona (Spain) and he has been playing at the most important venues in the city like Razzmatazz, La Terrrazza, City Hall, Macarena, This Side UP, Upload, The Warehouse, Slow Club and CCUE and sharing booths with artists like Sascha Funke, Moscoman, The Hacker, Swayzak, Kasper Bjørke, Rex The Dog, Fairmont, Terence Fixmer, Djedjotronic, FJAAK, Audiojack, Tim Green, Demian, La Mverte, Curses, Undo, Theus Mago, Damon Jee, Iñigo Vontier, Thomass Jackson, Golden Bug, Asaf Samuel, Javi Redondo, Alvaro Cabana, Richard Rossa, Roe Deers, Pardon Moi, Teniente Castillo , Roman & Castro and Loud Neighbor among others.

Smashed Atoms aka Steve Gladdis has been making warm underground disco nuggets on the sly for the past decade gaining support across the board. After the runaway success a few years ago of “Cut This Way” on the label, Smashed Atoms returns with his most accomplished work yet, the “Moving Parts EP” featuring Crazy P style disco anthem “Lifted” featuring the one and only Kathy Diamond on vocals. Its a warm beautiful song about the power of a good beat and what it feels like to be literally Lifted off the floor. A possible future classic. Then we move onto more mid tempo deepness with Smashed Atoms teaming up with the mysterious Backdoor Man for “ All The Time”, a perfect warm up track with smoky indie vocal stylings and cheeky nods to 80’s retro lyrics. Hot Gorilla’s Andy Buchan steps up to remix the track for the final cut taking the brooding vocals into more Indie Nu-Disco territory with awesome analog stabs and flurries.
