Artist Info:
Black Light Smoke is the electronic music moniker of Jordan Lieb-producer, songwriter, and Daytime Emmy Award winning film and tv composer. A Chicago native, Jordan transplanted to New York City in 2001 where his career as a multi-disciplined musician has taken flight in many forms. He now lives close to nature in upstate (Rochester) New York. Black Light Smoke first lit up the dance music scene in 2010 with his EPs “Lovework” and “Switch Back” (Scissor & Thread), which were spurred on by a remix from DJ T and a spot on Andrew Weatherall’s Masterpiece. In the following decade he put out a wide range of records, including the synth-drenched EP “Firefly” (2014), two tracks from which were featured in Ana Lily Amirpour’s 2016 indie cult film “The Bad Batch”. Black Light Smoke has showcased his wide breadth of influences - from techno, darkwave and italo disco - with releases on Zone Music, Voodoo Down, hafendisko, Cut Mistake Music and Nein Records. In 2020 Black Light Smoke launched his own imprint, Death Decay Magic, a platform for darker techno, EBM, post-punk and wave genres. With tracks from The Hacker, Cardopusher, Dina Summer, Filmmaker and others, Death Decay Magic has received praise and support from the likes of DJ Hell, Laurent Garnier, Green Velvet, Jeniffer Cardini, Silent Servant, Bloody Mary and more. Black Light Smoke has performed his unique live set around the globe, including Fabric in London, Boiler Room, Robot Heart, the BPM festival in Mexico, and in many cities across North America.

Mexico’s leading underground label Duro Records is back with another brilliant EP, this time from Mijo, who serves up a fine original that comes with remixes by Paulor, D.Y.O.R., The Chica and Moisees.Mijo is a multi-instrumentalist with a raw sound that mixes up tech, disco, house and analogue synths. He releases on Her Majesty´s Ship, Sanfuentes Records and Correspondant and impresses with the refreshing ‘THXTASY’ here. It’s a perfectly warped, heavy tune with fleshy bass and trippy synths that are driven by punchy kicks. A big vocal will get hands in the air and the whole thing oozes late night menace.Fellow Mexican Paulor from the likes of the You and Your Hippie Friends label then excellently remixes the track into something brilliantly dark and cosmic. The drums hit hard and there is a real rock angst in the stabs. D.Y.O.R is a soulful, jacking and deep house proponent from the Netherlands who flips the track into something more elastic and house in nature, but with acid lines and chattery, Chicago-esque percussion.Next The Chica steps up with two terrific versions. The first is a slamming techno cut with whirring machines and flat, forceful drums and the second is a fist pumping, turbo charged old school house version with raves stabs. Both will do real damage on the ‘floor.Last but not least is Duro co-founder Moisees, the man behind last year’s superb ‘Train Station Philosophy’ release. His vision of ‘THXTASY’ is one of corrugated funk, macho disco grooves and stuff hits that make you jerk your body.

The only thing that we know certainly about human nature is that it changes all the time. Changeability is the only predictable human property.
Black Light Smoke's "Lines and Shadows"  is the debut record from Death Decay Magic. This blistering 5 track EP thrashes around on the techno/post punk spectrum.  Our pick up is a "Lines (BLS Remix)" - raw, acid take on the original. Both feature paired down drums, simple single note base lines, and punctuated vocals which tell the story of the darker side of human beings. While the original brings us back to the retro sound of early minimal synth music, the remix brings us right to the dance floor.
