Crowdpleaser  - After Rhône (2013)

The prolific Manuel Costela has worked in a range of house and disco styles over the years, but this three-tracker for Bengoa's Athens-based B2 Recordings finds him firmly in deep house mode. Opener 'Unpleasant Dreams' is a suitably drifty and abstract affair, albeit still underpinned by a hefty 4/4 kick and with sampled, spoken vox to stop it washing over you. It's 'I Feel It Coming' and 'Inner Journey' that work better for yours truly, though: both (the former especially) are just a little more uptempo and driving, and both add garage-y elements that help infuse proceedings with a little more soul and groove.

TOY TONICS continues with re-releasing the best tracks of GOMMA RECORDS. The German label that between 2001 and 2015 was one of the key imprints of the then so hyped indie dance, new wave funk and proto disco sound (along with James Murphy’s DFA, Trevor Jackson’s Output records and later Ed Banger records). The Y2K sound...that now starts to become in demand again.

Now here comes a 3nd compilation part with music by Dimitri from Paris, who also did several EPs on Gomma in the 2000s.
Also, legendary Belgian disco DJs The Glimmers are featured (they had one album on Gomma in 2008) and UK legend Justin Robertson aka The Deadstock 33’s and one of the first ever releases by Daniel Avery (also on Gomma back then). You find remixes by Nicky Siano (Studio 54 DJs legend) and Horse Meat Disco, who back then just started their party series and already were connected to Gomma records. There is an amazing Flamenco Disco track by Spanish producers Hugo Capablanca and T. Keeler that has been hammered by everybody from Optimo to Ivan Smagghe back then, and Italian music diggers The Barking Dogs together with now fashion designer Marcelo Burlon are featured with an amazingly catchy electro Pop track. Of course also Munk who was the founder of Gomma records is on the compilation.

Gomma not only was a record label, but was also a home for cutting edge design, wild T-shirt styles, underground exhibitions with new artists from the Berlin scene and crazy poster and fanzine design. Before the label was closed in 2015, the Gomma visuals world has been exposed in exhibitions around the world, one of them at Museum Haus der Kunst Munich.

‘404: Beach Not Found (Yet)’ craves for a nostalgic paradisiac adventure, driven by three eccentric robots. C4STRO, Deaf Feet, and Martim Tonic cherish a mechanical toast in honor of the former french funky duo.
The five-track odyssey cranks up the experimentation of various electric guitar chords, weaving basslines and a full bag of decoded sampled grooves. A seductive jam that echoes through the extent of shallow coastal waters and resonates with the sound of both analog and digital sources.

Sandboards drop their 'Nights Over Taieri' EP this week on Rinse. We've got the premiere of the title track below.

The Kiwi duo have been building huge momentum with releases on Feel My Bicep and Cold Tonic as well as working with Krystal Klear.

On their latest track, 'Nights Over Taieri', Sandboards deliver a massive piano driven cut of euphoric Italo house.

Speaking about it, the duo told DJ Mag, “Over the past couple of years we’ve kept a few tracks back to play exclusively at our shows, and they’ve always had an amazing reaction, so it’s really great to be able to release these with Rinse all together.”

Flight Mode makes a welcome return to Delusions, this time joining forces with Joel Brittain to come up with another killer release in the form of 'Burn This'. Those who caught his last one 'It’s So Nice' last year will know the drill; epic, rolling, dubbed-out loopy uptempo house based around a classic disco bassline which patiently builds, increasing in intensity Wild Pitch style. 

This premiere's 'Burn This' treads similar waters with subtle arpeggios floating around an incessant groove whilst layers of vocal pads build to a crescendo over a beautiful ten minute ride. Proper mid-set heat raising material this - a bag essential.
