Luke Slater’s Mote-Evolver reach the big 4-0 with the help of Chris Jarman, the commanding officer behind the Kamikaze Space Programme. Looking to redefine the concept of uncompromising from bass culture’s traditional Bristol HQ, ‘Concrete Musique’ is four tracks of loud, hard-nosed, techno-taunting speaker pressure.

Both ‘The Bailiff’ and ‘Network Rail’ power off boxy kick drums: such is their statement of intimidation, not much else is needed to accompany this campaign of haymaking through the arena.With percussion veering between tub-thumping and machine gunned tribalism, the pair set about a session of straight up and down ear-bashing. ‘The Bailiff’ carries the thinnest and daintiest of supernatural airs, while ‘Network Rail’ and its spearing loops demand to be housed in a hangar reaching breaking point.

Dancing on the live rail and taking a buzzsaw to its bottom end is the blackened electro breakbeat of ‘Radio’, laying down body-popping lino before the techno undertone turns it into a bed of nails. KSP’s palette is again sparse, watching the sparks fly while cowbells ring in the distance, making a date with the Deathstar for all poppers and lockers brave enough to face its wrath.

‘Death to the Valley’ is a versatile beast. Thanks to its explosive bass foundation, it can be found sweeping grime and trap before it, hanging out in the deepest techno recesses, and stomping its breakbeat feet. Another seethingly bare backdrop, punctuated by lab squiggles and signals vainly trying to keep a leash on the marauder it has let loose, means you should wear protection: contents are white hot.

For the last 25 years, Luke Slater has been a master in sound design. Throughout his career he’s operated under several different guises, with an extensive back catalogue that’s widely regarded as one of techno’s greatest. 

He started out in the early 90s releasing seminal works on labels like Peacefrog, and in 2006 he started putting out music via his own label Mote Evolver, yet his output hasn’t slowed down since then: the best example of this is probably last year’s killer 'Arc Angel' LP he released as Planetary Assault Systems via Ostgut Ton.

Slater is equally lauded as a DJ. Through our history he’s become something of a Farringdon staple, and his clinical precision has helped make his Room Two sets highly anticipated among the techno contingent of our family.

He reminded us why he’s become so integral to our space at his last appearance with us. Following on from Terry Francis and Black Asteroid’s bewildering live show, Slater stepped up to close out the room with a dramatic and transcendent 3-hour closing.

As we invite him to return to his adopted Room Two home this coming Saturday, we uncovered the recording from last year in anticipation.

✈ We are delighted to welcome croatian dj and producer INSOLATE [Proletarijat, Modular Expansion Records]

Insolate, formerly known as Miss Sunshine, is a Dj, producer, label owner and promoter. She’s been active in this scene for now 20 years and is considered as one of the best techno artists from Croatia. She played in clubs and festivals all over the world, such as Berghain, Rex, Tresor, Club d’Anvers, ADE, Tomorrowland, Dimensions, Exit Fest etc. She released dozens of vinyls and most notably a record on Dj Deep’s label Deeply Rooted, which marked a turning point in her career and made her start performing under the alias Insolate. 

In 2015, she launched a successful vinyl label “Out of Place”. Its 3rd release is on the way and will be out in fall 2017, including tracks by Milton Bradley aka Alien Rain with his top acid game (first release outside of his Alien Rain label), Developer with his unique sounding groovy stomper and Insolate’s deep dive into hypnotizing murky waters.

The DJ, producer and curator of Hidden has been refining his craft for well over a decade and has become known for unrelenting and hypnotic sets and productions from the U.S. to Europe and beyond. Today we present a special mix crafted using several unreleased tracks, forthcoming releases and favorites from across the techno spectrum. 

We also take a look at Sharma’s new EP, Bedlam, out March 16th on Hidden Recordings. This is perhaps the producer’s most ambitious work to date and we were quickly drawn in to its dark, almost trance-inducing qualities. Today, we also present the premiere of “Mania”, the final track on EP and a truly powerful way to close it out. The release also features a great remix from Barcelona duo- NX1.
