Mixmag Adria Exclusive Mix podcast series' second episode in 2022 features the prodigious Michelle Sparks, the poster girl for the Californian label Octopus Recordings.

Born and raised in Arizona, Michelle got her first pair of turntables in 2006. and started spinning in 2008., working with various promotors in Phoenix. On the creative side, she started releasing her own work in the early 2010s, her music described as atmospheric and futuristic sound, infused with deep musicality and raw, stripped down minimalism.

In 2018. her Octopus' debut EP ''Force Field'' went out, making her an essential member of the team and regular DJ at the Octopus Showcase & Warehouse parties, with many US and international appearances. Michelle's latest track, ''Yakuza'' is out now via Octopus Warehouse Series, as part of the January 2022 Warehouse Focus VA Compilation. Her remix for Marascia & Dusty Kid's ''WIWY'' is part of the ''Octopus Selects 2021'' release.

Zack ... da war das ganze Konfirmationsgeld auch schon wieder weg. Aber dafür standen nun zwei Plattenspieler und ein Conrad-Mischpult in BIRKENLAUBERs Keller. Eine gute Investition, denn auch heute ist das Auflegen und Produzieren immer noch die große Leidenschaft des Hamburgers.

Während die ersten DJ-Jahre durch Hip-Hop, Rap & RnB geprägt waren, landeten irgendwann die ersten House-Scheiben auf den Plattentellern. Und das sollte sich so schnell auch nicht ändern. Die Liebe zur elektronischen Musik manifestierte sich und wuchs mit den Jahren immer weiter.

Springen wir in die Gegenwart, in der BIRKENLAUBER mittlerweile für einen druckvollen Techno-Sound steht. Seine Performances sind eine Mischung aus treibenden, monotoneren Stücken und eskalierenden Peak-Time-Tracks – mal raw, mal trippy und mal voll auf die Mütze. Und: immer überraschend! Nicht selten kommt es vor, dass bei einem seiner Sets die Wurzeln der musikalischen Herkunft hörbar werden und es zwischendurch auch mal ziemlich melodisch und housig werden kann.

Seit 2012 produziert BIRKENLAUBER eigene Tracks. Anfänglich auch hier noch eher in unteren Drehzahlbereichen unterwegs, stehen bei ihm heute Produktionen im Fokus, die mit straightem Beat, coolen Percussions, peitschenden Hihats und cleveren Chords für viel Freude auf dem Floor sorgen. Viele seiner Stücke haben dabei auch ihren Weg in die Beatport-Genre-Charts gefunden.
