Referring to the silence that returns when last year’s “Krómantík” EP fades out, Sóley said, “… your closed eyes slowly start seeing something much deeper and darker,” and now that something is here, it’s right in front of us: “Ask The Deep” is a stunningly dark and deeply personal departure after the minimalist and bleak piano compositions of said EP: Relying on guts, ghost ships, and a sonic map that doesn’t show the same piano coordinates as before, her soft-sounding voice leads us deeper and deeper into the shadowy fairytale worlds only hinted at on previous releases such as her “Theater Island” EP and 2011’s much-praised “We Sink” debut album. Changing tactics to fight her inner demon with every track, “Ask The Deep” sees the bespectacled songwriter open Pandora’s box – and close it eventually. At least for now.

This piece is an adaptation of the middle movement of "Wine-Dark Sea: Symphony for Band." The full symphony tells the tale of Odysseus and his journey home following his victory in the Trojan War. But Odysseus' journey would take as long as the war itself. Homer called the ocean on which Odysseus sailed a wine-dark sea, and for the Greek king it was as murky and disorienting as its name; he would not find his way across it without first losing himself.

"This Cruel Moon" is the song of the beautiful and immortal nymph Kalypso, who finds Odysseus near death, washed up on the shore of the island where she lives all alone. She nurses him back to health, and sings as she moves back and forth with a golden shuttle at her loom. Odysseus shares her bed; seven years pass. The tapestry she began when she nursed him becomes a record of their love.

But one day Odysseus remembers his home. He tells Kalypso he wants to leave her, to return to his wife and son. He scoffs at all she has given him. Kalypso is heartbroken.

And yet, that night, Kalypso again paces at her loom. She unravels her tapestry and weaves it into a sail for Odysseus. In the morning, she shows Odysseus a raft, equipped with the sail she has made and stocked with bread and wine, and calls up a gentle and steady wind to carry him home. Shattered, she watches him go; he does not look back.

Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds set to release his first Hollywood film score.

Ólafur Arnalds’ original motion picture soundtrack for Sam Levinson’s feature film debut ‘Another Happy Day’, starring Ellen Barkin and Demi Moore, will see a worldwide release via UK modern classical label Erased Tapes Records on February 27, 2012.

‘In mid-December 2010 I was on a holiday in China when I received an email from Sam Levinson about the film. We got on the phone at like 4 in the morning Beijing time and ended up talking all through the night, instantly connecting. He told me that they had been listening to my music while making the film, so the film was already very influenced by my music. However, it was not until Ellen Barkin – the beautiful force that she is – had pestered the producers for a week, calling them every day about how I am the right one for this film, that they finally gave in. The only catch was that it had to be done two weeks later, in the first week of January. So I ended up scoring nonstop all throughout Christmas, making my mother mad in the process.’ - Ólafur Arnalds

Born in the suburban Icelandic town of Mosfellsbær, a few kilometres outside of Reykjavík, the 24-year old composer has always enjoyed pushing boundaries with both his studio work and his live-shows. The perfect beginning of the newest IMMINENT story. 
The opening track on the Florescence compilation tenderly embraces listeners with a soft piano intro, signifying the beginning of evening time in the digital city of our sonic aesthetics. In a moment, Moonlight starts to project a beam of bright white light with the track immediate unfolding. 
The viscous dynamics of Moonlight is led by tangible bass-line and pulsating percussion, reminding of the medusa underwater movement. Vocal samples and atmospheric synth pads, appearing and dissipating like momentary echoes, provide listeners with an eclectic mix of nostalgia and a sense of new discoveries. Less intense ambient sequences without percussion straighten sonic variety of the piece, creating a visual image of a fade out screen before the next scene of our music story called Florescence is introduced. 
Interestingly, the possibly final text supplement for our fundamental Florescence compilation release is a review on the opening track by a producer named Azaleh, his commentary and, most importantly, an upcoming exclusive interview with the artist himself. Nevertheless, it’s a great opportunity to rediscover this sonic gift that is the compilation release. More art miracles are coming your way from the IMMINENT collective. 

Azalehs commentary on the track:

Moonlight is a really important track to me. Most of it's melodic work was laying around for a long time and I didn't know how to finish it. One day, on a train ride through Sweden I started writing what became the outro of the track later. I didn't mean to combine it with the rest of the track at first, but when I had the idea it made so much sense and sounded great to me too.
Listening to it wakes so many memories, it reminds me of the places I've been to and the people I met.
I hope that it makes you feel alike and takes you on a journey too.

Drolma 
Is an ode to our initiator Ema'a Drolma Mata. She introduced us into the world of shamanism.  The song starts with some live fragments from a ceremony with Ema'a.  At first you hear Ema'a with her assistant Magali.  Both are no longer among us in physical form, but we still feel them strongly.  The work continues on another level.  We always feel very supported by Ema'a and are still very grateful to her.
Om tare tuttare ture soha or 'the green Tara mantra' is an old mantra akin to Tara, the 'Mother of all Buddhas', and especially to her manifestation as Green Tara. Tara, who by Tibetans also called Dolma or Drolma, is generally considered a Bodhisattva or Buddha of compassion and action, a protector who comes to our aid to relieve us of physical, emotional and spiritual suffering. 
Tara has 21 main shapes, each of which has a different colour and spiritual quality. Of these 21 forms there are two especially popular among Tibetans - White Tara, which is associated with compassion and longevity, and Green Tara, which is associated with enlightened activity and abundance.
