Though still very much renowned for his techno back catalogue and work alongside Atkins and May, Saunderson has always been a distinctive artist in his own right, refusing to be shaped by one genre. Tracks by fellow Detroit luminary Stacey Pullen and Mathew Jonson’s Cobblestone Jazz project are featured on the mix, but then as a cheeky nod to his legacy, Saunderson dives back into techno territory for the end of the mix, finishing with a cluster of varied, beefy techno edits of several Ben Sims’ tracks, under Saunderson’s own Reese moniker. It’s a masterful touch.

I've been listening to Essential mixes since I first started getting into clubs and electronic music, so it was a shock, and exciting for me, to get the offer to make one myself. The two hour format really allows some time to explore ideas musically as well.

So bringing everything together, I decided to try and make it an exploration of everything that has made me so obsessed with electronic music for the last 20 years, with some of my favourite records from the mid 90's, unreleased material from my favourite artists like Nils Frahm, Lusine, Tim Hecker and Rob Clouth, and a range of genres from ambient to 90 bpm electronica, house and techno, all the way up to 170bpm glitched jungle mayhem - I thought, why not have some fun with it!?

So it's certainly not a normal club mix, it's just what I think is the best music out there, without worrying about what genre or box any particular track fits into or how things should be done "properly". I wanted to leave some sections quite ambient as well, to give breathing space between the peaks, so I'm happy to be able to post this new version up, minus the broadcast talking and idents.

Matt Relton, aka. Kidnap Kid’s music career started strong rather early: he must have been the only university student to ever have won the iTunes ‘Best Electronic Song’ in 2012 for his release ‘Vehl’ and went on to be the only postgraduate on tour with TEED and Disclosure the following year on a national ‘Hype Envoy’ tour of the United States.

His stamp onto the electronic music scene continued last year with the release of ‘Stronger’ – a club-orientated track that stood apart from its vocal-led predecessors. It opened him up to a world of new audiences as well as gaining strong support from the tastemaker cognescenti Pete Tong and Sasha. New music coming this year continues with the same style and focus, showcasing the darker, sleeker end of his dance-floor ready output.

Extensive touring in 2015 has already included multiple weeks across America, Canada and Mexico for BPM Festival, shows in Puerto Rico as well as the infamous Holy Ship. Add that to major sets at Glastonbury and Coachella, Kidnap Kid continues this spring with a solid month of US festival and club shows, rolling into a summer packed with Ibiza and European dates. One thing is for certain; the world’s clublands will be seeing a lot more of the Sheffield producer who remains one of the UK’s most successful exports.

Unser Podcast Nummer 83 kommt diese Woche von niemanden Geringerem als von der bezaubernden und umwerfenden Mira. 

Lange Jahre beeinflusste Mira die ost-deutsche Techno-Szene bevor sie vor ca. 10 Jahren ihre musikalische Heimat in der legendären BAR25 in Berlin, später Kater Holzig und jetzt Kater Blau fand. Während ihrer Zeit in Berlin hat sie ihren ureigenen Sound geformt, der an endlose Nächte voller Wunder und Gefühlstiefe erinnert.

In der Bar25 war es auch, wo sich Miras Wege zum ersten Mal mit Chris Schwarzwalder, NU und Jo Ke kreuzten; daraus entstanden sind nicht nur lebenslange Freundschaften sondern auch kreativer musikalischer Austausch, Kooperationen und ein nicht enden wollender Output an toller Musik.

Jeder, der selbst schon einmal in den Genuss ihrer endlosen Sets gekommen ist, versteht sofort warum ganz Berlin ihren speziellen Sound so sehr schätzt. Warm und  hypnotisierend geht er unter deine Haut und lässt dich mit einem Gefühl tiefer Verbundenheit zurück.
