Seitō gathers Japanese female artists from various electronic and experimental music fields. Like the « Tokyo Flashback » series issued by P.S.F. in the early 1990s, this collection recorded between 2017 and 2019 exposes the richness of the contemporary Japanese underground music scene. The title refers to a cult feminist magazine printed in Japan in the 1910s. All tracks issued for the first time.

Paper Gestures was originally created as an 8-channel sound work at EMS, Stockholm in 2019. The piece is based upon field recordings made across Norway over a 13-year period including sounds of military exercises with tank fire, a road surface stripping machine, breaking panes of glass, high speed trains, ultrasound recordings of stomach noises, wind whistling through vents on the Oslo underground, sliding wardrobe doors, microwaved popcorn, soap suds, bee hives, hand bells and bicycle races. 

Composed from field recordings made in Oslo, Lillestrøm, Deset, Eidsvoll, Risør, Øysang, Røros and Trondheim, Norway between 2006 and 2018.

Released 27th February, 2020.

Permea - from 'Paper Gestures' CD (Glistening Examples)

When the covid-19 pandemic started, in a mixture of distress and concern, it was hard to block out the imagination and its ability to dream up how far things could go. In what feels like a lost tape from a field trip in nuclear fallen-out land, Malvern Brume paints a world seemingly abated. Occasional muffled dictaphone note-taking punctuates caustic interruptions, cryptic utterances, the hollow chime of steel panelling, the movement of 'something' under the gravelly surface. When the journey comes to an end, a crescendo of static noise comes to fore and we hear the splash of water, it becomes apparent that wherever we are is fairly similar to where we are right now.

All sounds recorded in London between April and March 2020 during lockdown. Made using various instruments, devices, field recordings and objects including; a synthesiser, modified violin and penny whistle, balloons, tape recorders, bird whistles, bells, a sampler, gardening tools, E3 dawn chorus and other materials found around the house. Both poems were written in response to walks through Victoria park during lockdown.

All music recorded, mixed & mastered by Malvern Brume.

Das "Orchestre du LÖTLÄB" der Galerie Pfund & Dollar performte zum "Festival für selbstgebaute Musik" 2020 in 3 Akten auf dem RAW-Gelände in Berlin zu ihrer Elektroschrott-Sound-Installation "DE-OBSOLESZENZIATOR". Dies ist der dritte Teil.

"Die Obsoleszenz ist allgegenwärtig und doch immer nur versteckt und (zu) selten diskutiert. Als ein treibender Faktor des kapitalistischen Systems und des damit verknüpften Kreislaufs von "Neukauf und Entsorgung" anstelle von "Instandsetzung oder Nutzungsänderung" ist diese Methode der geplanten Begrenzung der Haltbarkeit diverser Produkte als quasi systemerhaltend (wegwerf-)gesellschaftlich akzeptiert bzw. kaum hinterfragt. Die Klang-Installation "De-Obsoleszenziator" führt genau diese Realitäten ad absurdum, indem dem veralteten, kaputten, ungenutzten, am Straßenrand hinterlassenen sogenannten "Elektroschrott" neues Leben in Form einer Stimme eingehaucht wird. Druckermotoren getrieben von Merklin-Trafos, die Zeit ihrer angedachten Tätigkeit kilometerweise Papier umgewalzt haben, dürfen nun an Saiten klingend in die Jahre gekommene, von TFT abgelöste Röhrenmonitorgehäuse zum schallen bringen während weggeworfene Lautsprecherboxen knopfgesteuert in von Hardware leergefegten Computergehäusen schnarren. Ob das hier entstehende Klangerlebnis als ein melodisch Schönes zu verstehen ist, wäre anzuzweifeln. Doch die Idee hinter dem von Benjamin Wiemann und Lukas Kannemann initierten Repurposing-Projekts (welches nun in der Galerie Pfund&Dollar in Hamburg in Form einer regelmäßigen Bastelsession genannt LÖTLÄB ein Zuhause findet) ist auch nicht einen wohltönenden Zusammenklang zu erzeugen sondern eher den Augenmerk auf die oben beschriebene gesellschaftliche Disharmonie und den Umgang mit den uns zur Verfügung stehenden Resourcen zu lenken."

After a conversation and exchange of ideas orbiting his album
'Unfinished Portrait Of Youth Today' (2013, The Tapeworm),
german sound artist Hanno Leichtmann contributes a beautiful 
collection of Loop Music to the Off Center catalogue.

Sitting, immersed in a silent film noir played slightly too fast.
The movements uncanny. Trying to follow a storyline by lip
reading and listening to the tonality of the score.

Here. Rewatching this scene over and over. Again.

Suspenseful progressions throughout. (Parts 1-18)

Often times we're left with a strangely familiar feeling.
The warming, fuzzy frequencies constantly bordering
on melancholia. Collaged, vivid memories and emotions.

It's dark again.

The lonely detective on a corner with his hands burried.
Waiting, watching, observing, following a suspect unnoticed.

The case unravels in his head. Then it's being chased through a
dusty mechanical room. Not a soul. Gears and wheels are whirring
at a volume, faint shifting, the material slowly disintegrates.
Rapid rotations and steady beeping overlayed (hypnotic hum)
A distant siren. Try to focus. Try to find a way through the smog,
the oily, moist air. Hallucinations.

Hanno Leichtmann is based and working in Berlin, has published
works on Entr'acte, Karlrecords, his own label Picture/Disk, 
and collaborated with Faitiche's Jan Jelinek and Andrew Pekler
among a variety of artists.
