Rising music artist Dee Dray has escaped death not only once, but three times. The first was while being born and complications occurred. Doctors believed either he or his mother wouldn’t survive and two other times after flat lining from seizures. All these near death experiences happened before reaching his teenage years. 

Born in Buffalo, NY, his knack for beats began as a three-year old when he began playing the drums in his father’s church. His musical talents later earned him a spot at the Buffalo Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts where he majored in vocal and instrumental music. At Performing Arts, Dee began learning how to play the guitar and the piano by ear. It was at Performing Arts where he began to become more of a serious performer and writer. He was a cast member in several school plays, talent shows and operas with the Buffalo Philharmonic. Although Dee has always loved music, it wasn’t until his junior year in high school that his flair for writing and delivering hip-hop lyrics really began. A Johnson C. Smith Alumni, he has been residing in Charlotte, NC since 2002.  

Dee Dray is a retired champion of the Freestyle Friday competition presented on “The No Limit Larry & The Morning Madhouse Show” which airs on Charlotte’s number one hip-hop and R&B station, WPEG-FM Power 98where he performed under his former stage name “The Kid IsReal”.  Dee has also opened up for such acts as: R&B sensation Lloyd, Nipsey Hussle, Future, 2 Chainz and several others. In addition to all of this, Dee can currently be found hosting & promoting various events/parties while creating timeless music for his "fams".

I was always a fan of music since I was a kid. I loved classical music the most...there was just something about it that sounded cool to me. I had attempted to play the piano a couple of times throughout my life, but it just never worked out. One day, my cousin introduced me to guitar hero, which I had no interest in at first, but then I gave it a chance and it turned out to be the most fun game I'd ever played...little did I know it would turn out to be more than a game to me. I started making music on guitar hero:world tour. Eventually, I moved on to a real guitar, and soon after that, FL Studio. the past 3 1/2 years of my life have been solely dedicated to music. I'm going to take it to the next level now..
