Against the backdrop of the global pandemic that radically altered her everyday reality and the Black Lives Matter movement that sharpened her focus on black equity and erasure in dance music, the much-loved London-born, Manchester-based producer and DJ launched OTMI. While this genre-spanning label will release music from friends and collaborators, its debut release came from Anz herself as 001 explored the processes of coming un-done and rebuilding. Hard relate. At the beginning of lockdown, the industrious talent set herself the target of making 40 tracks and by the summer she had channeled her closed club frustrations to amass 74 tracks to soundtrack these unprecedented times. Throughout it all, Anz has played her signature blend of bass, UK funky, breakbeats, ghetto tech and electro selections once a month on her NTS Manchester show. As she’s been a regular of the station for half of its life, who better to close its 10.10 Store Mix takeover? Just as Manchester International Festival (MIF) announced her as one of the acts for its Homecoming Live night, Anz – who spends so much of her time recording club mixes –  wanted to share something different. Here, she wants you to take it easy with 65 minutes of “stone cold classics”.

Number forty-five presented by a very good pal of mine and talented musician @djchrisellis. Chris' warm,  gentle and friendly aura as a person can really be felt in his musical leanings. The DJ and producer has contributed to series’ like Public Possession, Hope St Radio, Friendly Potential, Primer and Head Rush, spanning between house, electronic, Balearic, dub and IDM.  

Chris' productions are perfectly balanced --  groovy electronic dance music, but still maintaining a feeling of warmth and authenticity.  Beyond covid-lockdowns you can catch him play his playful live set, and he's also got a four track EP coming out on @publicpossession early next year.

I heal myself weekly with the music I play. I listen deeply to the words buried within; the intention behind the lyrics either peppered-in or chorused. So much of the house music I connect with is rooted in love. It’s rooted in desire and hope. It’s rooted in narrative, “Do you want to trip with me?”, “I’ll outstretch my hand”, “I won’t forget about you, you won’t forget about me, we won’t forget about love vibrations!”. I listen to the messages to remind myself what I need and why I continue to move forward.

Vol.2 is represented in two mixing styles; long-melded blends (Trippin’ On Love) and fast, tight radio-style cut mixes with overdubs (Slammin’ With Love). Both convey the deep need for connection to one’s body and to others. It’s this connection energy that I find so powerful about house music’s healing magic.

I live to uncover and share these temporal moments locked in recordings of music magic taken place before I was born.
